Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Peterson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was not always interested in fitness. About a year ago, I was dealing with personal issues such as the death of a friend, medical issues within a family, and a loss of a meaningful relationship. Eventually, these issues led me into extended periods of sadness. I felt as if I lost the essence of who I was and desperately needed to make a change. Initially, I was unsure how to cope but then promised myself that I would do everything in my power to build myself up (physically, emotionally & spiritually) and that’s what I did. I began to do significant research on body types, nutrition, and exercise. After several months of consistency with weight lifting and GREAT results, I knew that I wanted to share these moments with other women that were experiencing difficulties in their lives. I decided to come up with a brand that represented my experience and success, as well as incorporating my skills acquired through education. I landed on SHAPE4QUEENS!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very challenging process for me. I have to push myself to remain consistent on social media, and in my business! I have a small support system that challenges me to step outside of my comfort zone to build my brand! My advice for other women that are starting their journey would be to believe in yourself! So many other people will not see the vision, but your determination will take you far!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a wellness/fitness coach. I create fitness programs that help women rebuild their confidence through their health. My goal is to help women create healthy relationships with food and their bodies! I’m most proud of using my platform to empower diverse women as we live in a society that does not uplift women of color.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a good mentor is key. I currently have a mentor regarding business decisions, but I am still searching for a mentor in the fitness industry. Networking is important! My advice would be to allow yourself to explore what other individuals have to say. Knowledge and relationships are valuable.
