Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Felten-Price.
Tracey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born on Long Island New York and transplanted into Scottsdale Arizona in 1981 with her family, Tracey has been part of the theater, concert and corporate event industry starting when she was 16. Loved taking Tech Theater during High School, then volunteering afterward at the Phoenix Little Theater doing mostly wardrobe, wig styling and makeup. Shortly after college, taking classes in Hotel Event Management and Special Effects makeup, she joined a local staging company in 1996 and moved through the ranks rapidly specializing in concert lighting, rigging, and crew stewarding. Taking a short 4-year break to tour with Disney on Ice and Sade, she returned home in 2001 to finish with the staging company ending as the Director of Operations in 2013. Happily moving into the freelance world and working such events as Super Bowl and 2014 NASCAR awards banquet, in 2017 the perfect opportunity became available to own and operate a business of her very own and Guardian Production Services was born! The thought of being able to help the clients and technicians the way they needed and deserved to be was too good to pass up. For a first-year company, she has already stormed the corporate world and impressed many a client with her “no-nonsense” approach, topped with care and concern, as always, for the final outcome.
Has it been a smooth road?
This industry is never a smooth road, but that is why we do it! Overcoming challenges and making things happen that sometimes the client doesn’t think will, is what we strive for! Looking at a finished product, whether it’s a kids party or Super Bowl, it’s always rewarding to us.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Guardian Production Services story. Tell us more about the business.
Local crews have been part of Arizona’s concert scene, nightclubs, festivals, conference event centers and ballroom corporate shows since the early 1960’s. Not until now has a local company encompassed technicians with such well-rounded talent, superior standards, and expert professionalism. Guardian Production Services isn’t a staging company. It is an event and production company based on recruited technicians that have devoted their lives to perfecting their craft. They are a group of professionals that take pride in the work they perform for the company they are representing… yours and your clients. From start to finish, our techs will not only look professional but also be able to perform the task at hand willingly and with ease. We take immense pride in the people we incorporate into our team and we know you will be more than pleased with their performance during your show. What sets up apart is the drive, and the family mentality we all have. Most of us have been together for over 20 years so we want to work hard for each other and make the team and the clients look good. What am I most proud of, my “kids” The ones that have stood by me helping me grow. Without them, I wouldn’t be writing this. My team is just that… a group of individuals that respect, look out for each other and work well together to achieve the same goal.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so – who are they and what role did they plan/how did they help.
My dad… my biggest cheerleader. The guys that got me involved in this industry when I was just a kid. Helped “raise me” Taught me the ropes and kept me from getting killed. Mr. Newcomer in high school. He was my Tech Theater teacher. God rest his soul, he was a wonderful man. The naysayers.. the ones that said the “little” girl can’t do that. Proving them all wrong was always my drive. This has always been a male-dominated industry and still is, but I prove myself every day, and once you do that.. they have a bit more respect for you. Michael Laraway my operations manager. His work ethic is off the chart. He is a doer. No matter what it is, he finds a way to get it done. He’s great.
