Today we’d like to introduce you to Timur Tugberk.
Hi Timur, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been building community long before social media made it clickable.
My journey to becoming Chief Marketing Officer of The Neptune App began in nightclubs, dorm rooms, and city rooftops—where I curated culture, movement, and momentum as an OG influencer, party promoter, and campus leader. From being president of clubs, dorms, and fraternities to founding unforgettable nightlife experiences like Twilight Tuesdays in D.C., I’ve always had a pulse on what makes people show up, stay engaged, and come back for more.
In 2005, I launched my first company, T-Squared, merging interior design and event production. That quickly evolved into Timur Tugberk Events, Interiors, and Media, a multidimensional creative firm designed to help brands—and people—find their audience. I mastered the art of translating IRL influence into digital presence before it was cool, becoming an early architect of what would later become influencer culture.
As social media took off, I was already leading the charge—merging aesthetic, storytelling, and experience to organically grow communities online and off. Whether I was working on brand activations at Fashion Week, reimagining public spaces like Park Merced, or leading award-winning campaigns in corporate healthcare and hospitality, my focus remained clear: build connection, spark culture, and generate impact.
This led to the birth of Designing the District—a full-service creative agency known for blending interior design, brand strategy, and public relations into immersive, emotionally intelligent campaigns. With clients across luxury, fashion, real estate, and the arts, my team and I built movements, not just marketing plans.
Which brings me to Neptune.
As CMO, I bring two decades of grassroots experience in real-world culture-building and pair it with data-driven marketing, PR, and design expertise. Neptune is the platform I’ve been preparing for my whole career—a raw, real, creative-first social universe that understands how people want to feel and how communities want to form. Here, we’re not chasing trends—we’re defining them.
From dorm rooms to digital revolutions, I’ve built communities everywhere I’ve been. Now, I’m building one on Neptune.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not even close—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My path has been filled with trials, triumphs, and transformation. As a dynamic, unboxable creative, I’ve never fit neatly into categories, which meant carving out my own space—especially when I officially re-emerged as an entrepreneur in 2016. That same year, life threw me a massive curveball: a near-death experience, a shattered skull, and emergency brain surgery that forced me to relocate 3,000 miles from San Francisco back home to D.C. I spent the next 6 to 9 months retraining myself—mentally, physically, professionally.
The rebuild wasn’t just technical—it was spiritual. I got sober in 2019, and that choice changed everything. It brought clarity, alignment, and power to my work. Every challenge has sharpened my vision and deepened my understanding of what it really means to build community—with intention, with integrity, and with purpose.
Smooth? No. But beautifully worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative force who lives at the intersection of culture, design, and strategy. At my core, I’m a community builder—whether through immersive brand experiences, architectural storytelling, or cultivating digital and physical spaces that make people feel something.
My career has spanned nearly two decades across interior design, public relations, marketing, urban development, event production, and influencer culture—long before “influencer” was even a buzzword. I’m known for my multidisciplinary approach and my ability to shape culture from the inside out. From founding unforgettable nightlife moments to designing award-winning spaces to launching viral brand activations, my work always connects the dots between creativity and impact.
I specialize in unboxing brands and individuals. I help them find their true narrative—visually, emotionally, and experientially. Through my agency, Designing the District, and now as Chief Marketing Officer of The Neptune App, I use design thinking and storytelling to drive cultural relevance and authentic engagement. I’m most proud of the way I’ve built community everywhere I’ve gone—on rooftops, in boardrooms, in social apps, and in urban neighborhoods across the country.
What sets me apart? I’m not one thing—I’m many. I don’t follow trends—I build worlds. I’ve lived through transformation—from a near-death experience and emergency brain surgery to getting sober and finding my way back to myself. That personal evolution mirrors my professional growth. I’ve learned how to reinvent, reframe, and rebuild—and I bring that energy into everything I create.
I’m not just designing brands or marketing campaigns. I’m designing moments that matter—and the communities that carry them forward.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Trust your gut, good things take time, everything is figureoutable.
