Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Boado.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fashion in my life began at a young age, I took to palettes of colors, the soft or roughness of fabric and the aesthetic of shapes of certain garments that were draped over people, or what I call a ‘Walking Canvas’. The epiphany to begin this lifestyle came to me all before I completed my sophomore year in high school.
Fast forward to my latter years at Camelback High, in the late nineties and the new beginning of the new millennia, the hip hop culture began taking over mainstream music and introducing itself onto the silver screen, as well as making itself more pronounced on primetime television. With this many outlets to choose from, there were only so many places more like, VIBE magazine and The Source to grab the ‘Where to find’s’ of the clothes celebrities and athletes were rocking!
With so much influence, I knew I wanted to be part of this culture, I wanted to one day call the fashion icons of today peers and contribute as a creative. I started my first clothing line in 1999 and pushed it heavy in school, out of school, you name it! As the few years of its success continued, my business partner at the time and I moved in separate directions. I moved to begin my own fashion line, which later led into Personal Styling.
Being around so much fashion, birthed introduction into other avenues of jobs in this industry. Photography, Wardrobe Stylist and Creative Direction to name a few. At this time of my life, there are more ways to be a creative and I began collaborating with others to create designs, music, art or just new content.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever easy. With any creative you meet, they will tell you there are ‘Creative Blocks.’ Similar to writer’s block, the remedy is just to continue to experience life.
Inspiration for creatives typically come from your everyday journey. This makes your story more appealing and authentic, building more value to your brand. Sometimes life itself will steer you in a direction that doesn’t align your career goals.
Like love, marriage, children, school, death to name a few. I’ve experienced this circle of five and have added them to part of the story of my brand. And what I can share about this, it fast-forwards you to your outlook on life.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
With having an artistic soul, what I do is create. What do I specialize in? Fashion and creative direction. With that said, together I design. As a Wardrobe and Personal Stylist, my business is to put together looks for other individuals to enhance their lives. My clients are typical, not in any particular order; professional athletes, businessmen and women, influencers, public figures, runway, and print models.
Everyone under the sun is a potential customer. I shop for them, create new looks with them, consult with them to create an image I believe they’ll love. I even design for them. I’m known for mostly working with menswear designs, taking your everyday look to the next level by showing men how less can be more or by adding more detail could be everything!
What I’m most proud of is the progress I’ve made over time by pushing the envelope and beyond with my clients. Working alongside new people and making them feel so much better about themselves after working with them. The feeling they experience when they step outside after working with me is priceless.
Their new excitement of the well-received attention can just make my heart smile. What sets me apart from the next stylist is that my style can be very eclectic. I’m influenced by all genre’s of music which gives me a very broad range of an eye for style that I make it my own.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a very general term, I like to believe that ‘Energy’ plays more of a role in my life personally and in my business. The more good energy you give, the more good energy you will receive back. Even if you give off the good vibes and others don’t accept it, you’re still left with your positively, and you can move to the next opportunity. There is business everywhere to be done.
