Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Regan.
Tim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into the Mortgage Industry in 1999. That’s right, before Y2K. My brother got me an interview with the company he worked for. I was hired and away I went. Now mind you when I started I knew absolutely nothing. I didn’t even know what a mortgage was really. The thing that has lead to my success early was working around people who are willing to be team players. People who were willing to help me learn this industry from the top to bottom.
20 years later I have always kept that mentality. I am always willing to help train new Loan Officers. The hope is that mentality will pass to them. They will then help the next person and so on and so on.
Over the 20 years of being a mortgage professional, I have helped countless number of families with their mortgage needs. I think the thing that I do well is understanding that when clients come to me they have so many choices of who they could work with but for some reason they chose me. I don’t take that lightly. I listen to their needs and goals. Based on that I give the best possible advice I can in the moment. Which sometimes means not to do anything. I have always approached my position with a help 1st, sell 2nd attitude. If you help someone the way they are looking to be helped there doesn’t need to sale. You are servicing that clients specific to their needs and they typically appreciate the honesty.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth is an objective term. It is no secret that America’s economy went through a “mortgage meltdown” in the late 2000’s. That was a difficult time. I actually took some time away from the industry from 2010-2013. So to answer the question, No, it hasn’t always been smooth.
But I believe things happen for a reason. In 2010 the company I worked for in Arizona closed. My family and I moved back to Chicago as a result. During the 4.5 years we were back there I lost my grandmother and my wife lost both her grandparents. Had we not moved back neither of us would have been able to spend some quality time with people who meant a tremendous amount to each of us and our families as a whole.
Those years were tough. But we made it through together. In 2015 an opportunity came up that allowed us to move back to Arizona and we jumped at it. We have been back here ever since.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work for Clover Key Home Loans. It is a small mortgage broker owned by my brother and his business partner. We specialize in residential mortgages. We do everything mortgage-related. I am proud to work for a company that takes pride in putting our clients first. We are a small family-owned business. I work day in and day with my brother and brother in law.
Aside from being a full-time mortgage professional I also volunteer and fundraise for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I have been involved with them for two years now. I became involved to give back to the community in a way that meant a lot to me. As a young man, I lost my Uncle Ray to Leukemia and it was something I will never forget. He was diagnosed and passed away within seven days. My Uncle Ray was very much a father figure and just downright awesome man. Losing him left a void for many people, my aunt and cousins especially. My goal for 2019 is to raise $50,000 in his memory. If I am fortunate enough to achieve that, LLS will name a portfolio of cancer research in his memory. I can’t think of a better way to honor him.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE Scottsdale and the Phoenix area in general. It would be hard to pick just 1 thing. Scottsdale is beautiful. I love the backdrop of the mountains. Sunsets here are breathtaking. Scottsdale also has a lot of great dining spots. My wife and I like to have date nights and there is never a shortage of choices for dining.
Some of our favorite spots include SOL Cantina, Sushi Brokers, Maple & Ash, Blancos and Dough Bird.
If I had to pick a least favorite thing I guess I would have to go with the fact that places close early. Moving out here from Chicago that was an adjustment at 1st. Aside from that, hard to say. The heat can be tough at times. But overall this really is an awesome place to live.
