Meet Tiffany Nelson of Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Nelson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Having played golf all my life and for Purdue University Women’s Golf Team, I knew my passion was to work in the golf industry. I moved to Arizona and was fortunate to gain experience over the last 23 years and the past 12 years with the PGA TOUR. Starting at TPC Scottsdale for 9 years and now being the Executive Director of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the season finale for the PGA TOUR Champions, for the last 2 1/2 years. We moved to Phoenix Country Club last year, after being at Desert Mountain for the previous 3 years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth overall. For a woman to be in a man’s industry, I’ve faired very well and felt very blessed. There’s always the bumps in life that you have to overcome but in the end, they make you stronger and smarter!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Charles Schwab Cup Championship – what should we know?
The PGA TOUR is a 501 (c) 3 organization and a part of that are the tournaments that raise money for charity. I’m the Executive Director for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which is the season finale of the PGA TOUR Champions. The tournament hosts the top 36 players who play for the Schwab Cup (overall season winner) and the Championship (tournament winner).

I’m responsible for the overall success of the tournament, which includes financial success while managing expenses, coordinating over 600 volunteers along with 800 members and of course the professional golfers. What makes this golf tournament so special is 100% of the profits go back into Arizona charities. It all stays here in the valley to many different charities including Junior Golf Association of Arizona, Folds of Honor, Boys & Girls Club of Scottsdale, and many more.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve been very blessed with the mentors in my life that have helped get me to where I am today. My parents who have always supported me through all my endeavors and many others in the business. I would never be able to do my job without the team we have in place, Danielle Russell, Blake Kuehner and Kristi Lee Fowlks. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank the 600 volunteers that dedicate over 1400 hours of their time to the tournament.
