Meet Tiffany Bisconer of Acena Consulting in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Bisconer.

Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and ended up in Phoenix, AZ via Miami, FL almost nine years ago. I grew up knowing that there was too much I wanted to do in my lifetime to ever be pigeonholed into one role professionally or personally.

By the age of seven, I wanted to be an anthropologist, lawyer, writer, artist, and athlete. I’ve spent my entire life involved in the arts and finding new ways to challenge myself physically and mentally. I grew up as a multifaceted artist and an activist, while also balancing my intellectual hunger to learn and understand myself, others and the world as a whole as deeply as possible. I’ve always believed that the path to create a positive footprint in the world around me was to start with myself and work my way out.

I can be very serious, organized and pragmatic, true to my Capricorn roots and also very creative, flexible and fluid. Having both sides of my brain activated isn’t an easy task. I exhaust myself often! I am drawn to the uncertainty and potential that is inherent in the act of creation and I also value the foundations of planning and informed/directed action. I love to watch things grow. I love to build things. I love to challenge myself and others to squeeze out the most potential possible because I believe with all that I am that everyone has something valuable to offer to the world. I love standing at that intersection of technical ability and unbridled creativity – the true breeding point of innovation. I love holding open the space to dream, then doing what it takes to make those dreams come to life against all perceived odds.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think one of the most challenging aspects about being an artist and analytically minded person of sorts, is that I don’t remember having too many role models that exemplified my idea of success on the artistic front, or creativity on the business front. It always felt like we are given the choice of one or the other. This idea that we must choose one path, and that our identity must be attached to that path in some definite way, never resonated with me. I felt I had way more to offer to be handcuffed to only one of my gifts. I felt that if I couldn’t bring all of me to the table, my toolbox would be missing vital tools to help create a more positive world within me and around me.

The unhappiest times of my life were when I tried to hide parts of myself in order to “succeed” at someone else’s rat race. When I boxed in my creativity and played the role of the professional because I was told that no one would take me seriously if they knew I was an artist. Or, when I hid my business sense around other artists because I wouldn’t be taken seriously as an artist if I wasn’t solely focusing on my art while also struggling to make ends meet. These unrealistic caveats to the roles we adopt to in life were suffocating to me. I’ve lived the life of a starving artist and I’ve lived the life of a soul-starved professional. Neither of those options suited me. For myself, I knew that the answer was in integrating all the parts of myself in order to create a joint venture between my creative and rational minds. I tasked myself with designing a reality I saw fit for me, not adopt what anyone else told me was the right way to live. I have learned, through a lot of trial and error, that when you don’t see a model for what you deeply desire, you must create it from the inside out. So I did. I am an artist. A writer. A dancer. A CPA. An athlete. An empathetic human. A believer in the inherent potential of life. I will settle for nothing less than being all of me. Unapologetically.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Acena Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My driving force has always been to be the best human I can be. To touch the world around me with compassion. To look at myself first when something seems off around me. I enjoy living life through all of my senses and taking those inputs to create something meaningful. I enjoy connecting with myself and with others at a deep level. Diving into the meat of what makes us tick and then finding ways to support further growth. On a professional level, I combine my technical expertise as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) with my ability to strategize and connect with others to find avenues to enhance cash flow in businesses through the utilization of tax credits. I specialize in the research and development tax credit, which is potentially applicable to any business that is creating new or improved products or processes. I’m extremely passionate about what I do because it allows me to talk shop with business owners in virtually every industry, at all levels of growth, about the innovative work they are doing and then help them get the benefits of tax incentives that help them build their business even further. I am also able to consult other CPAs on this specialty area in a non-threatening way so that we can all rise together.

Due to my humanitarian roots and life-long involvement with non-profit organizations, I’m also a big proponent of social entrepreneurship. Giving back. Focusing business efforts on the impact they have on our local and global communities.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope that I have enough life left to accomplish all the grand goals I’ve set out for myself! Over the past few years, I’ve competed in multiple triathlons, including three full-distance Ironman Triathlons in one year. I also qualified for the Boston Marathon twice and running that race was one of the most inspirational days of my athletic life. I’ve dialed back the extreme endurance sports training a bit to focus on building business and I am planning on continuing this path of educating and engaging in the community as much as possible. I’m looking forward to bringing everything back full circle in order to create a positive impact on the community around me. All of my other grand plans are top secret for now 😉.
