Meet Tiffany Bennett of She’s Crafty Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Bennett.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a small town along the Mississippi River in Illinois, and by small I mean 700 people. My family moved to Arizona when I was a teenager and the west valley has been my home ever since. After graduating from Cactus High School I knew that I had to choose a career path that would allow me to explore my creativity and decided that graphic design and visual communications was the perfect fit.

Prior to opening, She’s Crafty Boutique, I worked at a number of valley non-profits doing graphic design and special event fundraising. Most recently, I spent 7 years working for a non-profit camp for children with serious illnesses. The experience was quite humbling and the impression that the campers and their parents left on me has changed my life forever.

I have two girls, 9 and 12 and they inspire me to work hard every day! No one told me this… but once you become a mom, you are no longer “cool” (so they tell me). That’s why they help us come up with new crafts to add to our collection.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any business owner would say that owning your own business is a smooth ride! It definitely has its ups and downs, but there is nothing else I’d rather be doing. I love sharing my passion for crafting with my customers. When I see the pride on their faces when they accomplish something they never thought they could do makes all the hard work worth it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about She’s Crafty Boutique – what should we know?
I’ve watched the north-west valley grow up around me for over 25 years and I love the amazing community that has bloomed here. As much as the west valley has grown, I still saw a desperate need for a space like She’s Crafty in the west valley. I knew that I could combine my skills in graphic design, my love of party planning and my experience at camp to create a place for crafters of all ages and skill levels to enjoy.

When I approached my parents with the idea, my mother jumped right on board. She is, after all where I get all my creativity. She was always the person I’d rope into making centerpieces for fundraising events or helping with kids craft days for camp. My father, on the other hand, took some convincing. Thank goodness he came around. I feel so fortunate that my parents are a part of my daily work routine. Though it’s a lot of hard work, we believe in our company and professional success is much better when you can share it with your family.

Our concept is unique in that we have a number of options for our customers. For the person who doesn’t want to plan ahead, we have over 50 crafts that can be done anytime; no appointment necessary. For the customer who knows exactly what they want, we can help them create that custom piece they’ve been dreaming of making. And for the group looking to celebrate, we have the event space for that special occasion.

During my camp days, I spent a lot of time at a valley hospital doing crafts with the children who were there, making Summer Camp a natural fit for us. Seeing the confidence and independence the children gain by coming to summer camp makes me proud to be able to provide that for them.

My mother and I have a passion for theme parties so incorporating birthday parties for children was an absolute must. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for a parent to have a fabulous birthday party for their child without any of the stress. They bring the cake, we do the rest.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Someone on Pinterest once said, “Everywhere you go, leave a glitter trail of kindness behind you. Someone who needs it may just pick it up.”

Building lasting relationships with our customers is our number one priority. Being successful in business is all about kindness and the way people feel after they’ve left our studio.
