Meet Theresa Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Flores.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I do not live in Arizona but have an outreach that helps to identify missing youth who may be trafficked. You can google my name and see many interviews as well as my story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Let’s just say I have tried to turn lemons into lemonade. I have been trying to raise awareness about the human trafficking of minors in the US for almost 15 years and it seems people still don’t get it. I suffer from PTSD from the trafficking and rise above the nightmares each day.

I was a single mom when I was going to graduate school and working full-time as a social worker and writing my first book. I would definitely say my road was full of potholes along the way but I have been able to get out of them in order to fulfill. My mission.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I was a social worker and did a home visits for 20 years. When I realized what had happened to me when I was younger was called ‘human trafficking’, I quit my job, helped a nonprofit open a home for minors who have been sex trafficked, and started my own organization.

Currently, I am the founder of The SOAP Project (S.O.A.P.) and am also the Program Director for the US Catholic Sister Against Trafficking. Trying to stop this horrific crime is my goal and helping survivors heal is my passion. I have written 5 books and 1 is a best seller!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can start or join a SOAP Chapter and continue to reach out to hotels and distribute missing children posters.

They can help collect important items we give to survivors at our retreats, donate air miles or hotel miles, or volunteer at a wellness weekend. We also need dentists who will help survivors and donations to keep our ministry alive and assist survivors.
