Meet Ted Sueyoshi of SmileyFace Photography in Fountain hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted Sueyoshi.

Ted, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I work with athletes doing physical therapy and injury prevention training. When I started working with dancers, figure skaters, and gymnasts, I fell in love with sports and what they could do. I’ve always been drawn to arts from my painting experiences as a kid. And I thought I could create some unique arts with those athletes. Even though I was always better at painting landscapes than portraits when I was painting growing up, now I think I am better at photographing people than landscapes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say it has been smooth. I believe people improve when they overcome challenges. I love facing challenges and working. Because I think I get better when I have to figure out how I can improve and get better at things.

Please tell us about your business.
I specialize in dance photography, senior/graduation photography, fashion/portraits, and night sky photography. We live in a beautiful world. But it’d only be that without beautiful people in it. I do photography to create and capture unique experiences and memories, not just unique photos. I also do Milky Way/night sky photo workshop and teach people how to capture the galaxy we live in and stars that are millions of light years away.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m not a proud person. When I achieve my goal, I enjoy it for a moment then set a higher goal and go at it. I love working with people so when I can make them go “oh wow!” when they see my photos, that’s when I know that I may have done a pretty good job (:
