Meet Taylor Rodriguez Kempton of TaylorMade Education in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Rodriguez Kempton.

Taylor, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mom raised me with the idea that “thoughts become things.” With these three words, my mom instilled in me the importance of positive thinking and “powerful” thinking at a very young age. As we drove to my recreational softball games each week, my mom would have me envision hitting a home run. She would have me describe it to her – what it would sound like, look like, feel like, and even what it would taste and smell like. I remember these car rides so vividly.

Similarly, my mom would always tell me to picture my teachers returning my tests with huge “A’s” written on them. Through teaching me about visualization and having me practice it, my mom taught me the power of the mindset. She encouraged me to manifest everything I wanted in life through visualizing it and BELIEVING it would happen without question. And though life doesn’t work this way 100% of the time, I can tell you that it worked for me a majority of the time. I hit those home runs. I received those “A’s” on my tests. I was elected into almost every student government position I wanted in junior high and high school and I graduated in the top 3% of my high school class. I definitely faced failure as well, but I was able to handle it powerfully because of the powerful thinking habits that my mom had taught me since I was a young girl. I believed in myself and my potential and no one could tell me otherwise.

I’ve always considered myself a leader and embodied certain entrepreneurial traits, but it wasn’t until I began to study business in college that I realized I wanted to start my own business. I began to tutor privately while in college to make extra money, and I found my first clients through Craigslist. However, I started receiving more clients through word of mouth, and I was able to make a decent amount of money throughout my college experience because of referrals from parents who were happy with my services. This led me to want to create my own formal tutoring business, but as any new business, I knew I had to have something that set me apart from the rest. I had to be different. Dozens of other tutoring companies already existed, so I had to think of what would differentiate me from my competition. About three months before I was set to graduate college, I came up with the idea to blend everything that I had learned from thinking positively and “powerfully” into a curriculum that I could teach children while simultaneously offering them academic support. This is how the TaylorMade Curriculum was written and developed and essentially, how TaylorMade Education came to life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I just launched my business about two months ago, so my biggest struggle has been to remain patient. I know that the service I am offering youth can make a huge difference, and I genuinely wish to help other students grow their confidence and build a strong mindset to achieve success in all areas of their life. I know that this can be accomplished through the TaylorMade Curriculum, but my focus now is for others to know this for themselves. Growing a business is hard itself, and I don’t mind working hard. But because this is something I’m passionate about, I’m not patient. I want every student to discover for themselves the power of their mindset and use it! But I have to remind myself daily that this will take time. Every “overnight success” is preceded by years of hard work.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TaylorMade Education – what should we know?
TaylorMade Education is an all-in-one tutoring and life coaching service that teaches students important skills such as positive thinking, goal-setting, and self-confidence while simultaneously offering academic support. Students learn such life skills through the TaylorMade Curriculum. The TaylorMade Curriculum was written and developed with the help of dozens of educators, psychologists, and parents to ensure that youth of all ages and backgrounds could benefit from its purpose. It uses interactive exercises and guided conversations between the tutor and student to allow students to discover the power of their mindset and thus develop strong mental habits that will help them in the classroom and beyond.

In a typical 60-minute tutoring session, the first 10-15 minutes will be spent on the TaylorMade Curriculum and the remaining 45-50 minutes will be spent on the academic support. Each TaylorMade session builds off of each other, so the students have the opportunity to practice what they learn from one session to the next. We offer tutoring in all subjects for all grade levels, and we also offer tutoring for standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. Another element that TaylorMade Education offers is convenience: we come to you. Whether you would like tutoring in your own home, at a public library, local coffee shop, etc., our tutors provide our service at the location that best suits your needs. We also offer tutoring online via Facetime, Zoom, Skype, etc.

Through the conversations and exercises that occur during the TaylorMade Curriculum, the tutor has opportunities to express the care that he/she has for the student, and this allows for strong bonds to form between tutor and student on a foundation of trust. This foundation causes the student to be open to coaching and academic instruction and allows for productive, enjoyable TaylorMade sessions.
