Meet Taylor of NaussTay Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor.

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to getting where I am today has had some amazing ups and some big downs. I was never the girl who did her hair. I wasn’t playing with hair color in my bathroom or doing elaborate styles on myself or my friends. I actually had planned to go to college to be a therapist, ironically that is part of my job anyways. My senior year in high school I was getting my hair done and had this revelation that this is what I wanted for my life. I wanted to be a hairstylist. I wanted to make people feel beautiful. I wanted to build relationships with the people I’d see in my chair ,and I wanted to change everything to do this new goal. I ended up at a state school for one semester after my family encouraged me to stick to my first plan and see that through because I could always go back to school to be a hairstylist later. Well, after one semester I was not feeling college and dropped out, signed up for cosmetology school and moved out of my dorm and back home.

I’ve worked at many salons in my 12+ years behind the chair. I’ve assisted master stylists, been a commission stylist at a salon, and even rented in two salons with other amazing women. All of that helped guide me to where I am today in my own suite which I’ve been in for almost a year.

I love being a stylist. I’ve been blessed with wonderful clients that trust me with their hair and their stories. My long term goal is to open my own salon and be able to teach younger stylists how to grow into the stylist they want to be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part it has been a smooth road to get where I am today. I’ve definitely had some bumps here and there, but they’ve helped me grow into the stylist I am now. Honestly, everyday is a learning opportunity. I take any mistake I’ve made and try to turn it into an opportunity to grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about NaussTay Hair?
NaussTay Hair is both my business’s name and also something I am working to turn into a brand. I’m constantly learning how to take what is my business and myself and turn it into more. Currently, NaussTay Hair is just me in my suite creating gorgeous hair on beautiful women. I don’t like to say I’m a specialist in any one service. I do a variety of services on my clients from haircuts to blonding. I have recently started to offer hair extensions which I’m very excited about. My favorite services involve creating more lived-in colors. I care deeply for everyone that sits in my chair and want to give them the best experience I possibly can. My goal is to have my clients leave feeling refreshed and beautiful.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’d say I take risks in my personal life more than I do in my work life. I’m very impulsive, but I do my best not to bring that into the salon with me. I think my riskiest move to date is moving across the country from Connecticut to Arizona in 2020.
