Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Blount.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started making earrings in January 2020. The pandemic allowed me to spend extra time on the craft and find my style. It also allowed me to find a following of people online that supported my business and helped me grow in confidence. I have done many in-person markets and events since I started, and I love doing those. I have moved several times over the last few years, and breaking into new markets can be challenging, but I am enjoying expanding my clientele and meeting people all over the country. I am self-taught and have learned through many mistakes and successes how to be an artist, a businesswoman, and a content creator, and I still find ways to love this hobby.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an artist and creator of social media poses several challenges. The biggest is finding and keeping customers and keeping them interested in your product. The best way to get customers is by gaining a social media following, but the market can feel over-saturated, so it can be difficult to stand out. The feeling of inadequacy can creep in and keep me from creating and putting myself out there at times. But I try my best to be genuine and share what I think is the best content and products I can.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in polymer clay, and over the last 2.5 years, I have gone through many changes in honing my craft. There is always more to learn and new methods to try. I am most proud of the new ideas I have had and the success those have had, specifically creating customer flower bouquet earring sets. These sets are based on what a bride’s bouquet looked like and are so fun for me to make. I believe I am different from other creators because I have learned what I like as my personal style and try to create clean and classic looks instead of louder and trendy styles. I want a timeless look that makes my customers feel confident and beautiful. I do theme collections launches, but I also put out several styles throughout the year that are not themed. I always ask myself, “would I wear this?” If I can’t say yes, it doesn’t cut. I don’t see the purpose is making or promoting something I do not love.
What was you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a quiet child that blossomed into a social teen. I loved being involved in activities and school spirit events in high school. My friends were my whole world, and I loved doing fun things with them; going to the beach, Disneyland, camping – we did it all! I am also the oldest of six kids, so I was a very responsible child. It helped shape me into the adult I am today.
