Meet Tay Way of No Outlet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tay Way.

Tay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I’m originally from Cincinnati, OH. I moved to Phoenix back in 2016. I was actually moving to California with my brother but, as we all know, California can be quite a bit expensive. I was there for about a week in a half before my money started to slow up, my brother had to finish his schooling in Alabama, & I wasn’t quite ready to go back home to Ohio feeling like I failed myself & the people who were rooting for me. Fortunately, I had cousins here in Phoenix that welcomed me with open arms. It’s been a crazy ride since! Still is!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! I’ve been homeless, couch hopping, had jobs, lost jobs, had cars that got towed due to insufficient funds or broke down on me. It’s been wild man.

No Outlet – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company’s called No Outlet or No Outlet Family. We’re an independent music company to say the least. Still working on getting off the ground right now. So far, I’m most proud of the members we have. We’re all dedicated to achieving the goals we’ve set for the company & ourselves, & we’re all wearing many hats to ensure things get done. It’s a slow grind but with the team we have, I’m nothing but optimistic for the future. Us being a company filled with driven individuals makes the process so much easier. We also pride ourselves on being family-oriented, hence the name. It’s like, everybody wants to make music these days. Everyone wants to take the “easy way out” with rap or whatever genre they’re going for. In No Outlet, there’s a real passion here. There are no yes men/women. Everyone gets to have a voice & every opinion is welcomed. We genuinely care about the art we create & how it could impact someone’s life.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very outgoing. We moved around a lot throughout the city & most kids would be upset they had to move to a new neighborhood & make friends all over again. I was excited every time! I’ve always had this compassion for others. It’s funny, I once heard my granny joke about the fact that I turned out to be a good Samaritan, which happens to be the hospital I was born at LOL. I also had issues with my temper a bit. I was pretty sensitive which I can NOW admit to LOL.

But I’ve always been in love with music, art, movies, etc. I played the drums in church before I even started kindergarten. In elementary, I joined the band & of course, I started off with percussion. I wanted to try something different & picked up the trumpet before quitting once I got to middle school. I majored in theater my junior & senior year of high school at Butler Tech School of the Arts. & since my freshman year, I’ve been recording music with my friends. I find solace in going to museums & parks. There’s nothing like going to an art museum alone. Just you, the art, & your thoughts. I love it!
