Meet Tatum Gunnerson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatum Gunnerson.

Tatum, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I believe I started getting into makeup once I hit junior high school. I was going through puberty as we all do… however, my acne was out of control and I was always so insecure about how my skin looked. And during those times, that’s when YouTube was getting big and I binged watched all my favorite makeup gurus for hours on end! Sometimes, even till 2 in the morning! I loved learning all the different techniques used for make up application and I also loved learning about skin care and the right products to use for your skin type! I was glued. My favorite part was how creative people got using makeup, boy or girl. I’ve always been more on the artsy-side growing up: painting, crocheting, stained glass, and making jewelry were a few of my passions! I always challenged myself in these areas and I loved coming up with new ideas! I then grew my passion and got further educated in the beauty industry!

Has it been a smooth road?
Practice makes perfect! I don’t think of them as struggles at all! You learn new things every day! The beauty industry is always growing!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Well, currently, I work at a dental office as the marketing coordinator Monday through Thursday, therefore, I can only see makeup clients during the weekend (Fri-Sun). I make it work though! I have a lot going on, but I make the time to do makeup on my weekends! Even if I don’t have clients, I always like to do a cute look on myself so I can keep posting frequently on my Page. I also don’t specialize in anything specific really, and like a said before, you’re always learning something new in the beauty community. New trends and products are coming out every day so it’s hard to specialize in just one! I like that I can mix things up and try something different every now and then. And since I work at the dental office throughout the week, I usually go for an easy basic look that focuses on the skin. But once the weekend hits my creative mind gets to work! One thing I believe sets me apart from some people is that I love getting to know my clients. I like making the experience all about them so they feel special. I’m not a one-stop shop, I want all my clients to remember me and want me to do their make up for any special event. That means the world to me and I am so passionate about that. Nothing makes me happier than someone telling me that I made them feel beautiful and that they would love to book me in the future again!

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
A few years ago, I lost my passion for a little while and I was figuring out what I was gonna be in life. I’m only 22 and I’m figuring it out still! But once I got my kick back, I think that was one of the proudest moments for me. I had a little push from a good friend of mine and I appreciate them for telling me to get back into makeup and doing what I love!
