Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Tingey.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve always been the creative type and one summer, as a kid, I had a point-and-shoot camera. I took some creative photos of anything in sight. My love for photography grew from there. It was in middle school when got my first DSLR camera. At the time, one of my best friends wanted to be a model; so, every weekend we would go to the park, she would model, and I would photograph her. Fast forward to high school, I started to charge close friends and family for portraits they needed. Near the end of high school, my business Tara T Photography was going full force. After graduation, I went on to study at ASU where I graduated with my BS in Graphic Information Technology in only 2.5 years because I was so eager to graduate and run my business full time!
Please tell us about your art.
I am a portrait photographer specializing in capturing high school and college seniors. I shoot natural light with my Canon 5D Mark IV. I love photographing seniors not only because I can easily relate to them, but because this is such a fun time in their lives when they are going from one chapter of their lives to another. The sessions are always different because they all have a unique story and include things in their sessions such as extracurricular activities and hobbies they are involved in or plans after graduation. These images are inspiring because graduating is such an amazing accomplishment and it is defiantly something worth documenting. My goal is to capture the subject’s story, so they can treasure their accomplishment and remember it forever.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
The Phoenix area has such an amazing community for photographers! I am a part of many Facebook groups such as Tuesday’s Together by The Rising Tide Society. I will often reach out to local photographers via Instagram messaging. Most everyone I have met is so kind and willing to help each other out! I’m always excited to meet new creatives and expand my network!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
