Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Kaur.
Tara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been deeply blessed with Divine Guidance in my life. I think this is true for all of us, that we have some element of cosmic flow available to us, but I remember very clearly the first time I was able to consciously recognize this in my life.
I was 18. I had just graduated from high school and had no set plans for what to do next. I felt confused and out of step from everyone else who had their college arrangements in line. It seemed like every door I tried to open for myself wouldn’t respond, no matter how hard I tried. Nothing was working out and I felt anxious and overwhelmed.
While searching and meditating on what would be best for me, I came across an open house event at the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts, a local massage and bodywork school in Tucson. I had worked in some spas by this time and thought it was an interesting avenue worth exploring. After a few hours tour, I felt sure this was the place for me. My grandmother and I began the process of application and financial assistance and finally, things felt smooth. This was the first time I saw the Divine flow adjust my limited ego to bring me into alignment with my higher calling. I attended the1000 hour program for massage therapy and came into a new understanding of physical and energetic anatomy and how connected our biology, psychology and spirituality really are.
These synchronicities have continued to guide me throughout my adult life and I feel deeply grateful for them.
One of the major turning points for me was in my early twenties. My then boyfriend (now husband) and I attended a double gong meditation at the Gurdwara in downtown Phoenix with Sangeet Kaur Khalsa and Hari Naam Singh. Our experience was unlike anything else and something we made time for every month when they hosted it. We did not understand what was happening during these sessions but we knew we always felt better when we left. It was a fascinating introduction into the realm of “sound healing” before this term was mainstream.
Sangeet and Hari Naam have been amazing teachers and mentors since that time. My husband and I are both Reiki Master practitioners under the guidance of Sangeet who has been teaching for many years. We also have had the honor of studying Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan and Sangeet Kaur was one of the lead trainers for that program as well.
It is here that arose another synchronicity that completely altered my future path not only as a healer but as a seeker of Truth and Higher Consciousness.
I felt very inspired to take Kundalini Yoga teacher training in the Phoenix community and was in the process of signing up for the course in the fall of 2013. I made all arrangements to attend including time off from work and arranging to house in Phoenix for the 9-month program. The last step was to pay my tuition for the course. I had a meeting the following week to meet with the lead trainer and finalize everything. In what ended up being my first experience with channeling/downloading information from the source I was given a clear directive to wait. This was not the right course or the right time. I felt confident enough with these types of experiences at this time to listen to this. The trust I had established with this intuitive awareness was very strong and had never let me down. Though confused I canceled all arrangements and decided to wait on this training.
A few months later, I found another location in the valley, Anahata Yoga, Sound, and Energy Healing, that would be offering Kundalini Yoga teacher training. As soon as I found it, I knew this was the place I would best be served by and I quickly made all arrangements once again to attend the course.
During our time in training, the studio was transformed into a Crystal Bowl Temple. I had never seen the bowls before but one of my very favorite relaxation albums is recordings of bowls (which I found later to be Tibetan not Crystal). I remember mostly feeling afraid of breaking them. I tried not to be too close to the shelves during our classes and didn’t have any other strong feelings about them.
Our final weekend of teacher training changed my experience with the bowls completely. While in class, I had a strange feeling from three of the bowls. It felt like they were staring at me. I was not comfortable with this language yet, I sounded a bit crazy to myself in fact, but approached Amarjot Kaur (owner of Anahata) and expressed my feelings. She just laughed and told me the bowls were attuning to me and asked if I would like to set up a time to work with her and the bowls one on one. I ended up purchasing all three that week, completely unaware of the new journey we were about to embark on together.
Over the next two years, I went very deep into the experience of healing through sacred sound via Kundalini yoga mantra and the Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls. I would see bowls in meditation or dream about them and would call Amarjot to discover she had exactly who I was looking for. I kept bringing more and more bowls into our home which meant we were constantly rearranging to make sacred space for them while keeping them safe from our cats.
My husband is a wonderfully supportive man but he kept his distance from this practice of mine, always a bit concerned about finances when I would purchase more bowls.
I worked diligently to establish a sound healing offering where I worked, L’Auberge de Sedona and was met with tremendous support from management, coworkers, and guests who were loving their experiences. Even with such a wonderful reception from this community, I kept receiving another cosmic download which said: No new doors are going to open for you while you are working at this company.
The thought of leaving my job terrified me. I had finally learned how to be a good employee (many years in the making) and enjoyed the work I was doing, for the most part. I did not feel however that I was living up to my highest potential or highest calling. This cycle continued for two years. I kept receiving the same message, along with some elaborations which confirm for me that the Universe has a wonderful sense of humor.
While I was struggling with taking this next leap of faith Amarjot suggested that I should consider becoming a Crystal Bowl temple in Sedona. She tried to put me in touch with the right people to establish this for the better part of a year but, just like had happened when I was 18, the door just wouldn’t open for this opportunity. The more I felt “no” coming from this part of the journey, the clearer and clearer I became that this was something I really, really felt called to do.
As things unfolded in my job, I grew increasingly unhappy and felt less and less support. I finally decided to leave even though I was very unsure of what would come next. My last day was May 17, 2018. On May 16, 2018, I received a call from the owner of Crystal Tones. He said he would love to have us become distributors of the bowls and it was obviously a good fit and the right time. This synchronicity was perhaps the one that brought up the most overwhelming gratitude. It had been a long two years of stagnant energy leading up to this new journey.
My husband and I began making arrangements, preparing the home and all details associated with operating a home-based business. Meanwhile, I kept my healing practice in Phoenix and was delighted to see it growing by way of referrals.
Our home temple houses our personal collection as well as many alchemy bowls available for purchase. We try to keep 100+ in the space at any time (we have 111 as of this week) but have found the Temple energy to be very alive and powerful. This energy calls people to the space or to us for distance attunements with the bowls and we are blessed to be of service in this way. We have outgrown our home space for sound healing offerings and are opening a new Uptown Sedona location this month called Gurus Grace, specifically geared towards sound healing and conscious community development.
My Scottsdale based location is the last synchronicity I will share here. 🙂 This also came via a channeling/download, which is now somewhat common in my life.
I should clarify as well that, from my experience, these “communications” are coming from a cosmically elevated, neutral source. Maybe it’s a part of my higher consciousness that is able to anchor in only briefly, maybe it is a benevolent angel or guide. I am always very careful about what Universal channel I am tuning into so that I am receiving guidance from benevolence and not from mischievous energies. This could be another long discussion so I will leave it at this for now.
I was working on a client one day and had a large amount of information flow through. I had to ask the information to reveal itself slowly because I couldn’t understand all of it. I was shown an office space, a small office, services to be offered, rent per month to be paid and general reason for needing to serve more in this community. I followed up with some questions, including the need for this office location to be in Scottsdale instead of where I live in Sedona, and it was strong, somewhat scolding “no.”
I reached out to the person who owned this healing cooperative space called Shantiful (his name is Satyam Patel) and asked if I could come over and look at the spaces available for rent. When I arrived we discussed what I would be offering, which included bodywork, and he very kindly told me that wouldn’t be an option. Shantiful is a noncompete space and they already had a massage therapist there. He asked if he could recommend other areas for me to look at in town and I declined. The information showed me that I was supposed to be here at Shantiful. I drove back home to Sedona with that same sense of confusion but let it go.
The next morning Satyam called to say his massage therapist had given her notice and asked if I would like to reconsider. We discussed the details and all the services I was guided to offer were approved. The monthly rent was exactly as I had been shown. Everything was set in place and my healing space opened in April. I will offer different training, workshops, meditations, and small events at Shantiful with the next coming up in June. The full list of offerings there can be found on my website at SpaciousGrace.com.
Even as I sit and write about these highlights from my adult life, I am filled with joy and gratitude. Perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned from all of it is to trust the Wisdom within.
In our current world culture where there is constant access to external information, it is difficult for people to develop the discipline to go within. To sit quietly, to breathe deeply and to recognize that nothing will guide them more fully than their own innate wisdom.
I think that is part of what I feel inspired to share. It can come through the sound healing and the alchemy bowls, it can come through meditation, it can come through healing work but ultimately we have to align our intention that we will be open. From there we have only to listen to the guidance and then take action based on what is revealed.
I hope my story inspires and serves anyone who needs it, now or in the future. Many blessings always, Sat Naam.
Spacious Grace: Conscious Healing and Sedona Crystal Temple – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
In regards to healing work, I offer craniosacral therapy, Reiki, massage therapy and aromatherapy. I think what sets me apart is my ability to “hear” the body and address what is being asked for from an energetic level. This is very often different than what people think they are needing.
I also have been given the opportunity to work beyond the limits of the physicality. There are realms of healing that must be experienced rather than described so it’s difficult to put words to it. What I can say is that Time and Space are not bound the way many people believe. We can heal across the continuum and I am blessed to be able to glimpse some of that with people, when it’s appropriate and when it’s necessary.
At this time, I think my greatest asset to people as a healer is my ability to be neutral and to work beyond perceived limitations.
Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
Neutrality and compassion equally.
