Today we’d like to introduce you to Tad Inoue.
Hi Tad, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my fitness journey as a bodybuilder at the age of 15. I was literally a 95 lbs skinny kid in high school. To me that was simply unacceptable so I started studying everything I could on biology, weightlifting and nutrition. I went to college at Oregon State University and took all I could on nutrition. But back in 1988 when I started I couldn’t really see a vocation in nutrition or bodybuilding so I majored in religion and eventually got my undergraduate degree in philosophy with a heavy I=emphasis on the historical Jesus. I then went off to seminary and studied my masters in Theology focusing on ethics and the historical Jesus. All the while I was training and acquiring as much knowledge on nutrition and exercise science as I could. I advanced my physique by leas and bounds to a whopping 272 lbs at my heaviest at a body composition of 10%. I am 5’7″ so I was pretty impressive. And I even competed in bodybuilding competition several times and did well achieving national status but not acquiring my pro-card yet. That would have to wait until I was almost 45 years old when I would eventually win at the North American Championships. In my competition career I competed over 47 times and eventually winning Pro Status. During this time I would start my coaching nutritional business. In the early 90’s there were no coaches I was the first Diet Coach online in the 90’s and everyone told me I was nuts and nobody would sign up with me. It didn’t take long for me to quickly build a very successful coaching business helping athletes dieter competition and regular people diet for Lifestyle. During the last 30 years of coaching I have successfully worked with over 3000 clients and athletes from all over the English speaking world and I have always had a very high success rate or 90% or more achieving their goals with me. These days I am long retired from competition and I highlight wellness and a more holistic nutritional program. I believe in focusing on the trifecta of human experience mind/ body/ spirit approach when I coach. Recently, last year at the age of 54 my kidneys failed because of genetic influences and several years of chronic hypertension. While my health is good now I do have to go to dialysis 3x a week to clean my blood. But I am very thankful for where I am and how my life is moving. God is a central part of my life. I have a wonderful 15 year old daughter, Kiana. She is the center of the love in my life. No matter what challenges I face in this life I remain grateful and positive. It is for me the only way I know how to live.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I mentioned them in the previous section, my kidney failure has been the biggest challenge mostly because I have been so healthy my whole life it was quite a challenge emotionally for me. My next biggest challenge has been my business, while I have been very successful in my business this last year I had to take a step back from working so much and focus on my health and wellbeing. That was a huge challenge for me. I am not emotionally back and able to focus on my business again. Last year I reduced my workload intentionally because I really had to. But now I am building things back and excited to continue to help people achieve their bodily goals of health, weight loss and optimum health.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I take a more holistic approach to health working on the mind (attitude and perspective), body (various forms of dieting tactics depending on the person their history and their particular body, and spirit (I believe in laying our lives in the hands of our Savior Jesus Christ). I am most proud of being a loving and attentive father to my daughter Kiana. I have a very close relationship withy daughter. What sets me apart from other coaches is my extensive experience in the industry working with athletes and people. 34 years of continued work. I rarely find a person these days that can stump me I always get results. Sounds cocky but it is the truth. I have heard it all, experienced it all and done it all myself and with my clients over the years. Not to mention I have worked with very hard cases and disease states very effectively.
What were you like growing up?
I am an identical twin so my brother is a tenured professor at ASU in rhetoric and competition or english focusing his research on pedagogy and anti-racist studies. He is highly decorated and I am very proud of him. We are very close. He and I grew up like two peas in a pod playing lots of DnD (we still do today) and running around doing kung fu and pretending we were batman and robin. We had such a fun and loving childhood. We were raised by a single mother in Las Vegas Nevada for most of our childhood. My mother worked very hard sometimes having 3 jobs so we could have Christmas gifts and winter coats. We had a very poor childhood but a very loving and nurtured one. We were loved and kept safe and we escaped our childhood with no serious trauma or episodes. As a matter of fact I cherish those days of frugality, they informed my own ability and drive and entrepreneural spirit that I have today that has served me so well in my life. I have been a very driven and motivated individual my whole life while my goals have changed I am still the same kid from the trailer park in Las Vegas that I was all those years ago and I asm proud of who I am. I love God, my family and helping others reach their goals with thier bodies. I have been living a wonderful but challenging life. I highly recommend it.
