Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvester McNutt III.
Sylvester, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was working my corporate job, succeeding as a top performer from 2010-2013, and one day something clicked for me. I realized that I was making good money, I was getting promoted fast due to performance, but I was not happy with myself or my life. I was not living in my purpose and the only thing I wanted to do, was live in my purpose. I knew I was not using my talent and I was not dealing with enough challenge. I ended up quitting the job, with no real plan other than a few ideas, and I was filled with ambition and hustle.
I was in a toxic relationship too. I was lost. I was confused. I was in debt. I didn’t feel like I had a purpose. And when it rains, it pours, and then I lost my dad in 2014. I was broke, upset, and depressed. Everything since that moment has felt like a triumphant return to grace. Recovering was not easy. I had to face my demons, I had to face who I was and who wasn’t. It was hard, but I knew If I could get through the pain that I could find purpose, passion, and true happiness.
And today, I am a best-selling author, have spoken in two countries, in over forty cities, and I have impacted millions with my books and videos. This journey has truly fulfilled me and inspired me to share the story.
It was at his funeral that I decided to take my passion of being a speaker, a powerful voice for healing and love, and an inspiration to find yourself to the next level. Since that day I have worked every single day in the morning, afternoon, and at night to spread inspiration on the world. My work-ethic drives me daily. I never want to go to sleep until I feel like I have given enough of myself to the world. I have to give energy to my purpose, daily.
My goal is not to be fake positive but to be realistic and still positive. I don’t want just to tell my readers to be positive, I want to show them how, and I want to show them how to transcend those unruly thoughts and ideas. I use vulnerability and storytelling to inspire my readers to overcome pain.
My goal is to help others deal with and face the hard conversations that people are afraid to embrace aloud: fear, shame, regret, death, heartbreak, stress, depression, sadness, unworthiness, people pleasing and then I transition the reader into a positive and powerful place. I move my readers and listeners to love, joy, peace, bliss, success, happiness, acceptance, understanding, success.
To date, the success I have reached is great, but nothing compares to seeing the messages from people that say I helped save their life. That is the most rewarding part of this journey as a creator. Thank you for being here. Thank you for giving me a chance to inspire you to walk in your purpose, to heal from pain and to keep loving.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
What is a smooth road? If you know what that is, please tell me. There are only bumpy roads on the way to success, to your dream, to happiness. My biggest obstacle was overcoming my family situation — two alcoholic parents. One abusive physically and the other abusive emotionally. Overcoming that was simply step one…
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Success Is A Choice story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in connecting deep with people through storytelling. I help people get through the pain and heal, with the sole purpose of building a life that they deserve. I have written seven books with number eight on the way. I’ve spoken in over 50 cities and will be doing more this year.
What sets me apart from others is how vulnerable I am, especially as a male. Men are vulnerable, but we are very selective and specific with who. I’ve gone away from that by opening up to my readers with pure emotion, intense storytelling while using the stories to help the reader discover something about their own journey. What sets my brand apart is the depth and focus on what really matters: healing, love, and purpose.
What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were just starting out?
The cliche that successful people always say is this: If I could do it over I would do it the same because I wouldn’t know what I know. Of course, I agree with that, however, I have a transparent answer.
I would not have allowed myself to do it alone for some many years. To be successful, you need a team of people. You need to have a network of people who want to help who all have a special set of skills. Doing it alone made my success come slower.
Although I appreciate the process, doing it faster would’ve helped me and others. Now that I trust more people and allow more people in, the output has increased.
Don’t do it alone!!!
