Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Steer and Mari Castro .

Hi Sydney Steer and Mari Castro, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We met six years ago when Mari was hired at the salon Sydney was working at in Scottsdale. We were both significantly younger than the other stylists and Sydney was thrilled to have a colleague in the same stage of life as her. We quickly connected and became close friends. As we began our career as hair extension specialists, we lacked confidence in the service we were providing. Our work was inconsistent and we didn’t have the resources or guidance to fix it. It’s very common in the extension niche for any extension issues to be “the client’s fault”. As service providers, we refused to believe that we had no control in providing a perfect service. We sought out continuing education to learn how to customize our approach for every client’s unique needs and lifestyle. We launched Stranded Studios to combine the stunning results of hair extensions with a gentle, customized approach that we are proud to stand behind.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The last six months have been incredibly rewarding but not easy. In February, we took a risk on ourselves. We left a full book of business to start over from scratch. We faced the struggles of rebranding while learning how to market ourselves. All while figuring out how to run the administrative side of the business. As best friends, transitioning into business partners holds challenges as well. While we always respect each other’s opinions, we are learning how to keep an open mind with differing points of view. We’ve learned how to communicate more effectively and through that learned that we both bring different strengths that will only propel us forward.

As you know, we’re big fans of Stranded Studios. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Stranded Studios is a healthy hair extension salon. We offer hair extension services and scalp treatments. Our client’s hair and scalp health is always our priority. We believe that hair extensions are not one size fits all. Every client requires a unique approach. Our clients are not just a number to us. We want what’s best for our clients and their hair. We take pride in knowing that our clients can be long term extension wearers without causing damage to their hair. We believe that your hair should be the same or better post extensions as it was pre extensions.

Hair extensions are often known as being heavy and uncomfortable. Our clients often tell us that they thought that was the norm. We are proud to introduce the new norm of comfortable hair extensions.
