Meet Suzy Goodrick of Suzy Goodrick Photography in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzy Goodrick.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Suzy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey as a photographer began many years ago as a high school student. After spending a few years interested in visual art and photography, my dad taught me to photograph on his film camera. I continued learning the craft in the darkroom and pursuing photography throughout college.

After graduating from ASU with a design management degree, I began to pursue wedding photography with fervor and intention. I focused on collaborating with other artists and serving my couples well, and over the last several years I’ve built a business I’m proud of and still love doing every single day.

In 2018, I’ll be celebrating my 4th year as a full time wedding photographer. I can’t imagine doing anything else.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a creative small business owner has definitely had its challenges. But anything worth having takes hard work and determination. I’m grateful that my parents instilled in me a drive to pursue making a difference through my passions and gifts.

I’ve learned that each creative has various strengths and weaknesses. It’s crucial to be self-aware and delegate my weaknesses so that my business can grow.

I’ve also learned that not all business partnerships and collaborations are the same. Each one comes with their communication and creative differences. It’s our job to work together and find a solution our clients are happy with.

Lastly, I’ve learned the importance of work/life balance and within this, incorporating personal work to continue striving as a creative.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
SGP is a personal brand that specialized in intimate wedding and boudoir photography for the free spirit. My team and I are known for our client experience, great communication, and for going above and beyond for every couple.

I’m proud of the way we give back. We give portions of each wedding investment to Harvest India, an organization with a passion to feed, educate, and rebuild the lives of those in poverty in India. In 2018, we are also partnering with local vendors to give away a free wedding to one lucky couple, Phx Get Hitched.

I believe that by serving our couples well and creating an atmosphere of collaboration, we are elevating the wedding industry to a new standard in Phoenix.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was an independent, driven, academic, artistic, and athletic child. My parents taught me to pursue my dreams and make a difference. They also provided my sister and me the opportunity to travel and become familiar with other cultures, recognizing our privilege and also serving others at the same time.

I was also shy, quiet, and enjoyed being in the background; never the center of attention. As an adult, I’ve learned to embrace my introvert qualities and further pursue my strengths, such as listening, attention to detail, and self-awareness.
