Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzi Tringali and Dina Poropat.
Suzi and Dina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Mesa Arizona. I grew up fly fishing and hiking here. The outdoors inspires me. Both of my parents are creative hard working people. I’ve always been a creative person. Always learning new things and creating things. I realized I wanted to do hair at a very young age. I was always cutting off my Barbie’s hair and then I started cutting all my friends hair. I knew I loved hair! I did some research when I was 10th grade. I found a school called E.V.I.T. I enrolled but the cosmetology program was in high demand and had a wait list. So I did fashion merchandise I figured I already knew how to sew. Needless to say I learned so much in that class. The next year I started cosmetology school. I love everything about it. I graduated 2008 and have been behind the chair ever sense. This past year I have worked really hard on getting together with a friend of mine and started up our own company. Knickknackery has been an idea for a while and I’m so glad it’s finally in motion. This allows me to freelance and do all sorts of creative things. I make jewelry, floral arrangements, photo shoots, hair, and makeup. The name knickknackery comes from my love of collecting things and repurposing them. This allowed me to do all of the things I love without any limitations. I love doing hair and makeup and creating a photo shoot out of it all. Working behind the chair I have met so many amazing local people to work with. I feel truly lucky to love what I do.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have A.D.H.D and dyslexia. That comes with daily struggles. I have a great support group of family and friends.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Knickknackery story. Tell us more about the business.
Specialize in fun hair, weddings, photo shoots, and custom floral. I love that we have so much to offer. We have so many talents and our name allowed us to not limit ourselves.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in good vibes and good intentions. Whenever I’m creating something I like to get in my flow.
