Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzanne Gammage.
Suzanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I THOUGHT I was going to build a career in the real estate business when I left the University of Houston with an undergrad Bachelor of Science in Business and Commerce with a major in Realty Estate, followed by Business studies at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School. I paid my way through college by selling homes for a developer and just after I got my Broker’s License, I was offered a job in the petroleum industry doing international sales. My love of selling and making deals was a gift inherited from my father, who lived a big life that spanned five continents. Our family called Houston home, but we lived all over the world. I went to high school at the American School in Bahrain. I set aside my love of real estate and took the job. It was too good to turn down.
Several years later, there was a downturn in the energy sector. It happened at about the same time I was wanting to settle down and have a more normal life. The downturn was especially hard on the Houston economy, and it hurt all businesses, especially real estate. I formed my brokerage anyway, because there are always people buying and selling homes—maybe not as many of them, but they are out there, and if you work hard they will find you.
My husband-to-be’s job took us to St. Louis, but after a few years, there’s an opportunity to move to Phoenix arose and was appealing to both of us. We have been here for 25+ years now. Of all the places I’ve lived, Arizona is the one place I never want to leave.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think the road is what you make it. If you see every problem as just an opportunity to overcome a challenge and experience another success, you develop a “can do” attitude that gives you the self-confidence to handle anything, personally or professionally. Shortly after moving to Phoenix, we realized the company that brought us here wasn’t going to be a long term good fit for us, but we loved Phoenix and wanted it to be our home. This was exactly what I’d been hoping for—an opportunity to get back to my first love, real estate.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gammage Realty Group and Alcove Global – Fine Properties – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in putting together real estate deals in which buyers and sellers of luxury homes achieve their goals. I am proud to say many of my clients have been with me for years. Especially gratifying is that I have a number of international clients for whom I have handled multiple transactions. They trust my market expertise and intuition and, most importantly, my judgment.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There is so much to like about Phoenix, starting with the wonderful climate! Every day seems like a vacation. We don’t mind the heat, so it isn’t an issue for us. If you’ve ever lived where there is high humidity, as we did in Houston and St. Louis, you know why we appreciate the dryness here. In the winter, Phoenix is a very happy place. Walk into any of our great restaurants and it is packed with visitors who have come from some snowbound place and they are excited to be here with palm trees and green grass and flowers. If you are interested in recreation, Phoenix has something for everyone. Hiking, biking, golfing, you name it. We have a thriving arts community, major sports teams, and we’re a crossroads of cultural diversity. Here we are in the beautiful Sonoran Desert; yet, it’s a short drive to skiing or a short flight to walking on the beach. There is no place in the world like Phoenix.
