Meet Suhelen Gutierrez of SG CAKES & CREPES LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suhelen Gutierrez.

Hi Suhelen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a baker/ cake decorator for almost 25 years. I worked as a correcting officer for 14 years and continued doing cakes full time. I decided to quit my job to open my cake shop. I pulled my retirement money to follow my and my mom’s dream. Unfortunately, I met the wrong contractor. Which ended up taking my money and not doing the job. I have been struggling every since too open, yet little by little I have continued the process. Not giving up. After. While dealing with my mothers, fathers and sisters cancer treatments. I’m looking forward on penning my shop within the next month or two. Can’t wait. As a single mother of 3 girls. I want to have my own business and show them you could make your dreams come true if you work hard.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Besides, getting ripped off by my contactor. My parents and sister got cancer. Which I had to take to doctor appointments. I wasn’t able to get a job because my parents needed me. I had to rent rooms in my home just to make ends meet. After some time. I tried applying for jobs but I apparently was over qualified based on my background as an officer. I have had to max out credit cards to be able to buy equipment and inventory.As welll as to pay electricians, plummers, etc.. I’m ɓlessed to have help and support from my ex-husband and friends and family to help with what they can. Is not easy but it’s gonna happen.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have been making specialty cakes and dessert tables. I will have the first build your own dessert concept in the area. I will serve fresh made cakes. I will offer, coffee, desserts, Boba, Tea, shakes and ice cream. I’m really excited to show all of my customers other desserts I offer. Besides offering a location where you could enjoy the atmosphere. I’m offering a meeting area and our party room for events such as baby shower, birthday, bridal shower.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m not a quitter! I will make this project trive. I want to be successful. I treat people the way I want to be treated. The best compliment I could receive is the referral of friends and family. Can’t wait to see everyone at my future shop.
