Meet Stormy Nesbit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stormy Nesbit.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Stormy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been an artist even before I realized it. Since I can remember, I’ve felt compelled to create. Whenever a story or an image came to my mind, I would paint it or draw it anywhere I could, including the textured walls of my house. I still remember at the age of 4 my mother getting upset at me for the masterpieces I left all along the staircase walls. I never had any training, but I continued to create, not ever really knowing that my calling was to be an artist.

Fast forward to my sophomore year in college, I took a class on career goals and they made us write down three jobs you’d love to have but either don’t know anything about it or felt that you couldn’t make it in. Mine included an artist and a graphic designer. I was then tasked to learn more about these careers and ask questions that would help change my perspective. After that assignment, I dropped my original career plan to be a physical therapist. I picked up a pen, paper, and a MacBook, and at that moment I knew that I was going to be a graphic designer and artist.

Now, I’ve earned a bachelor’s degree in design and a master’s degree in visual communication design. I’ve landed my dream career working at one of the coolest places on the planet, Petsmart! Yup, my coworkers are dogs, cats and other various pets – oh and people. And when I’m not designing for pet lovers, I’m pursuing my art as a digital illustrator.

I recently felt inspired to start sharing my work and am thrilled with the positive reactions I’ve received. In the past, I was reluctant to share my work. I was worried if it wasn’t perfect, I would get judged. But I’ve learned to embrace the imperfections of my art and create for myself, not others. In creating art for myself, I’ve found that I am inspiring others.

My current work celebrates women’s empowerment and the beauty of women of all colors. Every time someone sends me a message about what one of my illustrations means to them, I know I made the right decision and that art was always what I was meant to do.

Has it been a smooth road?
No – is it ever?! Yeah, I don’t think anyone has ever had a smooth road. As I’m sure many people can relate to, the obstacles can bring your confidence down and make you wonder what your purpose is in life. Some of the challenges and struggles along the way include doubting myself and not having the same opportunities as others. But for me, I realized those obstacles built me into who I am today. I’m thankful to have challenges – they help me become a better me each and every day.

Tell us more about the business.
I have a small online shop selling my artwork in various forms, including, posters, stickers, and apparel. I also offer a variety of graphic design services such as branding, custom illustrations and digital art and more. I am mostly known for my art and illustrations and have worked with several clients all over the United States to create brand work.

I am proud of finally starting a small shop where I can showcase and sell my art while also being a place where people can feel inspired at home and in their workspaces. It makes me feel so honored and proud to see people share, buy and support my art.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Graphic design and illustration have already embraced the digital world, and we’re only going to get more and more advanced in this platform. My industry will have to continue to evolve as programs and clientell evolve.
