Today, we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Moody.
Stephen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been a creative type, never doing what everyone else did, I was always doing my own thing. But I never saw myself as a creative as I compared myself to everyone else and they were all doing the same thing. I never had any interest in following.
The hard part was school as there was a structure and you had to do everything the way the teacher you wanted you to do it or you got a bad grade. I had a hard time following directions… I did it my way.
It wasn’t until I was an adult that I felt the freedom to follow my soul’s path. But even then, different organizations I belonged to had specific rules to participate in their organization. I quickly learned to play by their rules and to push the limits with my style and creativity to be successful in their competitions.
Most of the time, I felt their rules were restricting me and the work I wanted to do.
Moving to Scottsdale changed my life. My new friends were into New Age spiritual ideas, and they introduced me to a Shaman from Australia who was visiting. I spent time with this spiritualist, and she opened up something deep within me, and I started creating a new style of artwork that was a culmination of everything I had experimented with throughout my youth and career.
I had my first fine art show not long after this and sold three of five pieces opening night for five figures. I knew the Universe was sending me a message that I was on the right path. I have moved on from photography and have become a painter, where I explore the same thirst for growth in my artwork.
But I like to explore new opportunities. Three years ago, my girlfriend told me that I needed to write a book. I laughed. Even though I had my own column in two different magazines, writing a book required a different style of writing. But I accepted her challenge, and thirty days later, I had finished the first draft of my first novel.
I love writing! In June, I released my third book, which quickly rose to #2 on Amazon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
When I was younger, I believed life was supposed to be a pleasant walk down a beautiful path. But I quickly learned that when you are on the right path, the Universe leads you down this pleasant path, and once you make the commitment to follow this path, the challenges hit you from all sides.
It’s like falling in love. There is the euphoria of love, which is not actually love, then your love is tested. Staying together as a couple and fighting for the relationship shows your commitment to your love and your love grows and is strengthened as a couple.
It is the way we grow in this life. A kit can only fly high when it experiences the adversity of the wind. I would never have achieved my accomplishments save for the turbulent waves that tossed me along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist and an author. I started out my pre-teen years with a camera in my hand and had a great photography career.
But I wanted more, so I started taking painting classes to learn the art of painting after a photography client of mine called me to tell me the intimate portrait I had created of his wife had faded. Photography had failed me and I knew I had to create with oil paint so my artwork would last generations, not just a decade or two.
My days are spent either painting in my studio or in my office in front of my computer writing my next novel. It depends on my mood. But, when I’m writing a novel, I’m dedicated to the project and find myself writing until the sun comes up.
Each of us comes to this earth with a set of talents that will get us through this life. I don’t compare myself to others as they have different talents than me, and they are on a different journey than I am on. The only person I compare myself to is the person looking back at me in the mirror. I know who I am and what I need to accomplish, and I work towards that every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Beginner’s luck is what happens to you when the Universe is showing you the path to follow, everything falls into place leading you down the path.
But success only comes when you stick to it and don’t give up when it gets hard.
