Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Jones.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story…
Food has always been a big part of my family, from both my parents being decent cooks to my aunts and grandmothers being great cooks. I was always the kid (if I wasn’t playing football) with my hand in the pots on the stove or experimenting with my own concoctions as my mother would later call ’em, haha.
Food & cooking is everything to me, I started out cooking in restaurants while in culinary school (I did some small prep work prior to culinary) in Pasadena, Ca it was there everything changed, I got a job working at Watergrill then from there is was Nobu, Restaurant Bradley Ogden, Restaurant Charlie Trotter, Mk Chicago, Tarbell’s, The Boulder’s Resort, The Palomar Phoenix, Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktail’s, DeSoto Central Market from all that I now have my dream the larder + the delta in downtown phoenix a journey’s worth of blood, sweat and tears has gotten me to this point in my career and Im excited, Im excited for it all.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? Hell no! from being a broke line cook working 90hr weeks to working for free, missing birthdays, holidays, graduations, funerals, births, friends, get together, and the list goes on and on… the struggles out weight the good.

My work is simple, I’ve made it that way now, what we do here at the larder + the delta is we operate with one objective “to put the food first” meaning we source locally, we operate the kitchen at 3% waste (we will get better), composting is fun, we source sustainable as much as possible and we cook with integrity & morals. What most people don’t know about the restaurant and what I am most proud about is our vegetable cookery and how much our menu is plant-based.
