Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Paschke.
Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from Carsten’s Cosmetology school of Tempe in 2006. In 2007, I began my career as an assistant at Rolf’s Salon in Ahwatukee. In 2008, I relocated to what was new at the time – XS Salon and Spa in Gilbert. At XS Salon and Spa I not only worked as a full time stylist with my own assistant, I also helped lead the education department within the salon. During my time at XS Salon I had spent a lot of time seeking education outside of the salon to further my career. I truly believe that continued education is what drives and excels your career.
Unfortunately, October of 2010, XS Salon and Spa unexpectedly closed their doors. I had always had always aspired to open my own salon and knew this was the perfect opportunity to execute my dream. I also wanted to create a work environment which offered in-house continued education and be able to inspire stylists to excel within their careers. March of 2011 I opened Savante Salon in Gilbert. I opened the salon as an independent owner along with two employees. Since opening, we have grown from a team of two to 16. Savante Salon has also been named, “Best Salon of the Valley” by the Arizona Tribune in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Our salon has also been featured on Chanel 3 News, and in Gilbert Women’s magazine. In 2016, I was named “30 under 30 – The Next Generation of Colorists you need to know” by The Colorist Magazine. I have also represented my business by being a part of several community service projects. In 2013, I was a part of the Gilbert Leadership program, giving back to the community; I still remain as a Gilbert Leadership Alumni today.
On top of owning a successful salon, I also am a global educator (COLOR.MASTER) for KEVIN.MURPHY. As a COLOR.MASTER, I specialize in color, traveling throughout the world teaching private in salon color classes, lead shows and events for KEVIN.MURPHY. Within this role, I spread the love of the brand KEVIN.MURPHY, inspire stylists to grow within their color business, connect individuals throughout the industry and represent my salon and high skill level as a colorist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing that is worth something is easy! The hardest point of my career was opening my salon, and building our reputation. Currently leading the role as a salon owner, and COLOR.MASTER for KEVIN.MURPHY, I have challenges finding time to balance life and work. However, I also truly believe if you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life! I work in the best industry and couldn’t be more passionate about the work I do! I’m also very fortunate to have amazing family and teams who support me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As an educator, and color specialist is only makes sense for my salon to specialize in hair! We offer all hair services (hair cutting, coloring, extensions, styling for everyday wear, special occasions and weddings). We also offer facials, micro-blading, nails and waxing services. As a company, we are most proud that we offer the highest quality of services at a reasonable cost. We have a standard of excellence which we provide because of the high level of education which our stylists are required to be a part of, our team also stays highly involved with our community, giving back as much as possible.
What were you like growing up?
I was a sassy girl boss as they say, at a young age! I was an entrepreneur at a young age – growing up, I always remember playing “waitress” taking orders around the kitchen table from my family or setting up “shops” in my bedroom with different arts and crafts I made that I would try to sell to my family. I always LOVED the mall, and would cry about going to school if I didn’t like my outfit or the way I looked that day. I was beyond excited to turn 16! I couldn’t wait to have my driver’s license and be able to work! I loved working through high school, gaining independency and being able to make my own money was so exciting for me. My favorite job as a teenager was working at Nordstrom. If for any reason I could no longer be in the hair industry, I would go back to Nordstrom! However, my passion for doing hair started at a young age! I was known for cutting my Barbie dolls and sister’s hair. High school dances were my absolute favorite! I would have all of my girlfriends come over on the day of dances and style their hair. I remember telling one of my high school girlfriends that I wanted to own a salon when I grew up!
