Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Rojas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stacy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey began back in 2008 when my Husband, Carlos, gifted me my very first DSLR. I’ve always had a passion for photography but never really thought about turning it into a career. We experience a poor experience during a very important milestone in our lives and as a result, I decided I wanted to prevent experiences like that from happening again to anyone and decided to take on the challenge of learning more about the photography world. My initial quest was to have the ability to take our own family photos that I knew we would be able to cherish for years to come. Little did I know, it would land me to where I am today – capturing some of life’s BEST milestone events for so many other amazing families that I’m lucky to now call my friends. What started out as a hobby for me grew into a true passion that I’m fortunate enough to say also allows me to provide for my family (Rojas Party of 6!). Not everyone can say that they love what they do – I am beyond grateful that I can!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t know that anyone can truly say that turning any passion into a business is ever smooth sailing. There were certainly many bumps along the way that mostly came with the learning curve. understanding the logistics of the art, all while trying to create a reasonable business platform that allows for me to be accessible and affordable to everyone and these were just a few of the hurdles that I was able to overcome with growth and time. I always have and always will appreciate experiences that allow for me to learn from mistakes and I continue to remain open-minded with business advice that comes my way.
I think the absolute biggest struggle was more on the personal side of life as an entrepreneur as I am also the Wife of my amazing Husband, Carlos, and a Mother to four awesome kids (Arianny – 8, Leilani – 6, Gianni – 4, and Kailani – 2). To say, I have my hands full is a slight understatement. As my business has grown exponentially over the years, finding the balance between work and my family has and always will be something I continue to work on. I do appreciate the freedom to choose and prioritize my days so I don’t have to miss any important moments in my family’s lives. My daily lists can feel long and the number of hours in the day short, but I have the greatest sense of love, happiness, and support in these beings not to mention my parents, mother in law, brothers and sisters, if it wasn’t for them always willing to babysit my kids while I go out and help create memories I wouldn’t be where I am today! I wouldn’t want to have my LIFE-filled days be any other way!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a natural light photographer and no matter what my clients’ vision is I love to try my best and bring their vision to life and help create memories that will they can cherish and love for years to come. I am blessed to say that almost all of my opportunities have generated from word of mouth referrals from family to friends and then friends of friends. As the use of social media grew, I eventually came across opportunities to capture monumental moments in addition to the family portraits, such as engagements, weddings, maternity, newborns, baptisms, first communions, cake smashes, real estate business headshots, seniors, graduations, Quinceñera’s, season pictures for teams and helping local businesses enhance their marketing material.
Looking back to where I started and reflecting on where I am now, I am most proud of the testimonials I feel so humbled to have received from my clients. Although the seasons continue to change, my clients continue to return to me year after year and it truly warms my heart knowing they trust and appreciate me so much with capturing their family’s memories. I’ve had the privilege to witness the first few days of life as their newest members enter this world, I’ve had the privilege to watch some of their children grow from infants to grade school over the years and I’ve had the privilege of being told that I am their “forever family photographer.” I realize with every session I have, my clients have put their trust in me and in every one of those moments, I don’t take that lightly. Family is everything to me so it is always an honor to me to be called for taking part in my client’s family memories as well! I was awarded “Most Loved Photographer” of 2019 by Hulafrog’s, it truly makes an impact in my life to know so many amazing clients support and love my passion.
How would you describe the type of kid you were growing up?
As a child, I grew up in a Christian home and attended private Christian school most of my life. I’ve always been an outgoing person, staying involved in Church activities, played volleyball and violin. As a daughter of business owners, you could say I’ve learned from my parents’ example and have always been a “go-getter,” even graduating high school at the age of 16 years old. I’ve been pretty independent and self-sufficient from the start, for which I am thankful for because now as an entrepreneur and mom of four, I feel like I almost have to be! 🙂 I don’t mind taking initiative to research what needs to be done and I think over the years (and with help from Pinterest!) I’ve also become a bit more innovative in creating my own backdrops and in establishing my evolving business model.
Aside from running my business and enjoying my family on the daily, I appreciate a strong cup of coffee in the morning and a bowl of hot Cheetos with Chamoy, Tajin & Lemon as I edit late at night. Finding free time to spend with my family on days I’m not shooting or editing is always the best!
