Meet Calvin Terrell of Social Centric in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvin Terrell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Calvin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up as a soul experiencing black membership of the human race between St. Louis, MO and Los Angeles, CA in the 70’s – 80’s within a so-called interracial family gave me potent intuition and social navigational skills. In my youth, losing a friend to murder by white supremacy because he was black and two other close friends to rape/murder by misogyny because they were women, launched me into wanting to better the world. I found core concepts for the evolution of humankind in Baha’i teachings and eventually launched a business I call Social Centric. For the past 25 years, I’ve worked throughout every corner of the USA in various communities, pre-K schools to universities, with law enforcement, activists, and even corporations.

My work, I call service, is about training people of all ages or generations to become healers of historical traumas around racial intersections with all identities, class, religion, gender, and environmental disruption. Via one-on-one or small group coaching / consulting, keynote addresses/school assemblies, professional development or training, retreats, and comprehensive courses, I help move individuals, communities, and industries or institutions closer toward a more ecocentric safer united humanity. I’ve attached my bio to more info with my email response. Europe’s colonial corporatist creation of whiteness was and is the most potent divider and distorter of human identities. It’s time we heal as a human race to form an evolved ecocentric global connection because the alternative, meaning “living life as usual,” will be catastrophic. With Social Centric and other soul warriors, I choose to be part of evolutionary healing; kill us or join us. Blessings!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was and continues to be hard. People’s subconscious addictions to old world beliefs / thinking around the deification of whiteness and the demonization of non-whiteness (blackness, indigenous ways, eastern philosophy, etc.) dehumanizes and traps all identities and institutions in a combative superstitious materialistic economic order based on phenotype. Because I get contracts from these same organizations that are part of the problem, it sometimes feels hypocritical. I’m very financially successful due to grindin’. The challenge is keeping spiritual integrity and not selling out or enabling oppression just to get paid. Also, people of any so-called race, background or identity can act as colonial corporatist agents of white supremacy, these haters often don’t even realize how they think like Nazis because they’ve been socially engineered to believe that “goodness” or “progress” is found in ecocentric oppression polished as fame, fortune or success. My work is like teaching fish, who are oblivious to the existence of water, what “wet” is; it’s super challenging, yet exhilarating.

Please tell us about Social Centric.
With regards to racial disparities, as well as race’s intersections with all identities, I do the following:

– INTERVENTION: when there has been an incident (police shooting, riot, suicide, lawsuit or something small like an argument among co-workers), I help deescalate to facilitate moving forward in ways that do not “sugarcoat” or “pacify” the situation. I help broker action plans for collaboration, repair, and possible transformation of practices, positions, or policy.

– PREVENTION: primarily in schools, I work with educators (classified and certified), scholars, and parents/guardians to eliminate the school to prison pipeline where a disproportionate amount of Native, Black, and LatinX children / youth end up in failing courses, being suspended/expelled, and later incarcerated. I have multiple curricula related to bullying/violence prevention, decolonizing schooling, enlisting white agency in eliminating white supremacy, and community policing strategies for preventing disproportionate minority contact with law enforcement.

– PROMOTION: The Social Centric philosophy I’ve developed is about promoting the interdependent interconnected truth of the human race with all the world (elements, plants, animals, and environments). Everything I do is about healing what divides humankind and hurts the Earth in order to evolve as united world.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The dream I had at eight years old that lead me to my future partner (wife), family, faith, friendships, and purpose.
