Meet Sly Guevara of Crazy Town Entertainment in Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sly Guevara.

Sly, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I decided hip hop was going to be the career I was going to work in I was 12 years old, Just a young kid from South West Denver with the same dream as the next kid but not the same mind or ambition. Coming from a city where no one had made It, Where no one had an interest in investing or listening to local rap I was being faced with a true challenge. As I got older the Burning Desire to succeed kept increasing, and I realized to get in the game I need to establish connections, Denver in those days, was not a place where resources were available. So I set off, eventually, I stumbled upon a nonprofit for music education named Youth On Record in the old west side Denver and I began visiting this place. Long story short, I was working with them and I got the opportunity to track and record part of their First Youth On Record Compilation. it featured a few grammy awards winning and platinum selling acts, and being only 16 years old this was a major breakthrough in my music/entertainment career. in 2015 (a year before that) I made it my mission to establish Denver Rap, Being in high school I spent a lot of time thinking how I was going to achieve this, Pushamania had once asked me “Does Denver have a sound and so what do you say it is?” Hmm, this put my mind to work. Denver didn’t have a sound, to establish rap in your city you must establish a sound, a subgenre. Every city that has a prominent rap scene either has a subgenre or their artist sound alike in one way or another. In Denver’s hoods, people played all kinds of Hip Hop from west to east to English to Spanish depending on the area. My area, in particular, South West Denver people played A LOT of west coasts and also Chicano/Mexican rap. I wanted to create a genre that resonated with the demographics and also something different than what everyone else was producing. Then came up with the concept of South West Hip-hop. This genre features a mix of Westcoast, trap, Chicano rap, & Electronic music & features English AND Spanish. Now with this concept of South West Hip Hop gave birth to our Entertainment Company Crazy Town Entertainment. Being just a Sophmore in high school i had to figure out how I was gonna make this work and QUICKLY. I figured if I want success in the music industry I need credits which is exactly why I started working out of Youth On Record when I was 16. Fast Forward to the next year after I recorded the compilation album and got the credits I needed to succeed, My Story was getting attention from the local press and I had all kinds of people hitting me up to work and do interviews. Now being 17 I knew I had to move on to the next step, which was thrown local shows and to start building a cult following.

So I began working out of La Jaula Sports Bar & Grill. long story short I threw a variety of shows for the community Raves, Concerts, Cyphers, Club Nights Etc. and by the time I turned 20 my company was hired to promote and run the nightclub floor full time. When I was 19 (a few months before my 20th birthday) I got an opportunity by one of my mentors to start up a studio business. He had seen all the moves and attention I was getting and he knew I didn’t have much money so he decided to invest in me and allow me to use an old vacant commercial property of his to get what I needed off the ground. This was the start of our three subdivisions in the company Crazy Town Studios. Now a present day we work day in day out to get our name out and bring in more clients. Every day that we keep growing we keep our vision and our mission in mind. This Motivates us every day to get up in the morning and hit the phones. This is the End of this Story but the beginning of a new one as Crazy Town shoots and Strives to be one of the biggest Entertainment businesses in Colorado by 2023. Being a kid from the hood which destiny was to fail, I refused to accept. This is Truly a story From Rags to Riches.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being Young and just a sophomore in high school I had no money to start my business, nor was anyone interested in investing in me so I had to come up with the money on my own. also being underaged at the time I was not allowed in a lot of places I needed to be to make money or establish connections. the last thing id say is not being taken seriously by others because of my age.
