Meet Sky Jackson of Beautiful Nightmare Cosmetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sky Jackson.

Sky, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since the age of six years old, I always thought that becoming a lawyer was what I truly wanted to be. I remember being in college telling myself that no matter what, I will get my doctorate in law. Then, life happened. I gave birth to my son in August 2011.

Two weeks later, I began my last year of undergrad. I didn’t have the break that most mothers have after giving birth. I was so determined to finish my undergrad on time with everyone else that I would do whatever to finish, even if that meant sacrificing that first initial time with my son. I wanted to finish college, but I knew that I was not going to law school that same year.

As you can imagine, I needed a break. I was taking five classes, doing an internship, working part-time, and still participating in board meetings and activities on campus- all while being a first-time mother. So, after I finished my undergraduate studies, I decided to take a break. I thought my break would be no more than two years before getting back into the swing of things and applying to law school. That small break has now turned into 6 or 7 years later, and I have absolutely no plans on going back to law school.

I’m sure some of you are wondering what changed my mind. Well, suddenly being in debt for the rest of my life didn’t appease me. I didn’t want to be 50-55 years old still paying off school loans (or almost done paying of school loans) that I had 30 years prior. In my opinion, that is too long to be paying off any debt. I realized that I did not want to work the regular 9-5 like most people, being miserable. I realize that I didn’t want to be on “indentured time” anymore. I wanted freedom to do whatever it is that I want to do.

If I want to take a 6-month vacation, I can take it, and I don’t have to ask permission. If I want to see my son win an award at his school, I don’t have to ask anyone if it is okay to take off for a few hours to be with my son. I began to realize that I had to change my life and take a completely different route. A route that was foreign to the people around me. For the first time in my life, I didn’t want to be an attorney anymore. I embarked on a new journey, becoming an entrepreneur.

Since identifying myself as an entrepreneur, everything has been falling into place. I get excited in knowing that I am one step closer to getting all my time back and becoming financially free. I am the first one in my immediate family to have started a business, and I hope to educate them on the benefits to starting one. I love talking about my makeup line. I have been told by many people that they have never seen me as happy as I am when I talk about my business.

I have made many friends and established many business relationships in the beauty industry so far. Recently, I was given the opportunity to have one of the biggest celebrity artist in music, Cardi B, wear some of my products from my line. After working with her makeup artist, I was able to make it happen. And I’m just getting started. By the age of 35, I plan to be debt-free and have complete control over my life-one where I can do whatever it is I want to do and have all my time back.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Advertising has been the biggest thing for me right now. But I’m learning to stay consistent, even if it is one post about my business being made for the day.

Beautiful Nightmare Cosmetics is designed to elevate your beauty. I wanted to create a makeup line where people from all shades and backgrounds can look and feel amazing. We have a broad range of products such as lipsticks, lip-gloss, eye shadows, and highlighter…just to name a few. Beautiful Nightmare Cosmetics takes pride in knowing that our products are 100% cruelty-free and are very sensitive to all skin types. I always like to say that “My makeup is so healthy, you can sleep in it”! Recently, we just had one of the biggest celebrity artist in the music industry, Cardi B, wearing makeup from my line. I was blown away and still am because this has been a goal of mine since last summer. It is such an amazing feeling to see the smiles on peoples’ faces when they are wearing a lipstick or lipgloss from my line. My vision for my company in the next 5 years is to have millions of people from all over the world talking about how Beautiful Nightmare Cosmetics was a life saver for them. My fiance has been my biggest support system through all of this. There has been times where I would second guess myself on things, and he has always been there to put things into perspective for me, and I will always be grateful for that. He helps with advertising at his college and even helps me pack and ship orders out.

Some of my friends and family has also supported me as well by buying products, sharing my posts, and just getting the word of there for me about my makeup line.
