Meet Shannon Piano of Skin Addict

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Piano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a native to Arizona. I decided to open a skin care company, so I could just “be good” to people. After my husband was killed, in 2011 over in Africa, I went through a bad depression, after a while, I just decided to get up and do something with my life. I made up my mind to go to school for skin care. I have always loved the beauty industry. I wanted to open my own company, so I could give back to my community. Skin Addict went from zero clients to over 1,000 in a year. We get involved in different community events. We also give facials to the parents of Hope Kids. These kids have terminal illnesses. It makes me happy to see others happy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. There were times, in the beginning, I sat in my office alone, and wondered what the heck am I doing. I spent all of my money to open this place. Instead of just sitting around waiting for people to come to me, I went out and got them. I started giving away Facial for free for anybody that would come in. People would say, “Shannon, you can’t afford to keep giving stuff away.” My response for that was I can’t afford not to. I just really believe in the power of giving, not when you have it, but even when you don’t!!!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own Skin Addict. I am a licensed Esthetician. I specialize in Dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is manual exfoliation of dead skin, and the fine hair on the face. Your face immediately looks smooth, healthy and younger. The reason I started with dermaplaning was because I had made my own product, and as I was putting my product on Client Face, I realized that it wasn’t penetrating to the depth that it could. So before I started the Facial, I started the process of removing dead skin and fine hair of the face. Then I would apply my product which would soak in the skin beautifully. We are really an exfoliation bar. We want you to come in, get your Dermaplane Facial in 40min, and be ready for a night in the town!!

What were you like growing up?
I was quiet until I became a teenager. I didn’t come from a great home, so I never really dreamed about anything. I now know time is precious. You can do anything you set your mind to.
