Today we’d like to introduce you to Sid Freeman.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Laramie, WY, where I graduated with an MFA from the Univ. of Wyoming. I started my own business as a commercial calligrapher. As computers became popular, my business wained and my husband and I set out for a new adventure in Arizona. After settling In Prescott Valley, I continued as a calligrapher with wedding planners. After a bout with breast cancer and too many 2:00 p.m. nights, I weaned myself off of commercial work and when back to my roots as a painter. This time, I painted watercolors with words.
Today, I show my works at the Jerome Artists’ Cooperative Gallery in Jerome, AZ. I have been also lucky to show my “Image Poetry” in the Sedona, Tempe, and Prescott areas, as well as being published three times in the magazine “Letter Arts Review.”
I continue upon my journey of explorations with visual narratives through “words doing their own meanings.” From these experiments, I cross-reference visual and sequence experience, i.e. drawing from both sides of the brain. I find myself continually being inspired by great painters of the past, most recently Paul Klee, Richard Deibenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud. And of course, from my husband and my great critique group here in the Prescott area.
