Meet Shirley and Kurt Huntley of Chores For You in Ahwatukee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley and Kurt Huntley.

Shirley and Kurt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Original pet sitting company established in 1987 by Gil Frederick. I began in 1989. My husband and I bought the company in 1996. Chores For You was the only pet sitting business in the area in 1989.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With small businesses there is always the thought you might not succeed. We’ve been very fortunate we have always been paid for our services. We have received referrals and have long standing clients which we regard as family.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Chores For You – what should we know?
We care for domestic and livestock animals in their own homes while the owners are away on vacation business trips or just unable to attend to their pet family members due to business or prior engagement. We make their homes look like someone is home in the evenings. If necessary we care for pools, water plants, scooper duty, haul garbage cans in and out and bring in mail, newspapers, etc.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Making the owners know we are committed to providing the love and care that their animals are used to receiving. We build trust with both owners and their animals. We care. We always make room for our animals we visit. We have no blackout dates nor do we charge extra fees during holidays. Last minute calls are expected and we do not turn anyone away. We never say “No – we’re not available”.

Pricing:

• Visits are $ 14 per visit
• Overnights are $40 per night.
