Meet Sherrie Werner of Flowers With Flair in Surprise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Werner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sherrie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always been a creative person. My love of crafting is where it all began when I was younger. I have always loved doing different types of crafts….whether it was jewelry making, knitting, needlepoint, dried floral arrangements, silk floral arrangements or making wood signs. I love learning new things. I didn’t become a floral designer until I moved to Arizona. I worked in the medical field and just wasn’t happy sitting behind a computer anymore. I stepped out of my comfort zone and changed careers to fulfill my creative side in 1999. I have been in the wedding and event industry ever since. I decided to branch out on my own in 2003 and started Flowers With Flair. I have been in the floral industry for 18 years and I love it as much now as the did then. Flowers are my passion!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life is never a smooth road. From all the bumps in the road we learn, grow and evolve into a better person. I had a major struggle in 2009 when I went through a divorce which was really a hard time for me. I decided to step away from my own business and went to work as a freelancer which kept me really busy. This past year I felt it was time for me to get my own business going again. I love freelancing and I have met so many wonderful designers in the floral industry but I also love being creative with my own ideas and seeing them come to life.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Flowers With Flair – what should we know?
Flowers With Flair is a studio florist that specializes in weddings and events. I love using textural elements in my designs…the unexpected! I have a passion for details to make each design different.

I now make custom wood and chalk wedding signs.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mentor was Robert Reed. He gave me my first job in the floral industry and for that, I am forever grateful. He taught me so much through the years. He was not only my mentor but became a very close friend. He passed away this year but will forever be in my heart.

Another mentor was Phil Rulloda. I went to his design school in California and took every class that he provided. It was one of the best investments I ever made. He was a phenomenal teacher. I soaked up the knowledge like a sponge.
