Meet Shawn Anderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Anderson.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have been welding and fabricating for over 25 years and recently coached youth flag football for a couple years. I believe in well-made unique items so decided to custom make each end of season player trophy instead of the normal trophy handout. Each trophy was created with characteristics of the players. The response from the players and their parents was heartwarming and after no longer coaching I felt driven to continue with the process as a creative outlet as well as a side business named Moment Fabrications. I create my own pieces as well as customized commissioned orders using new and up-cycled materials that I turn into art. My family has helped in multiple aspects from searching for parts to cutting metal to attending art shows. I am very excited to see where my creativity through this business takes me in the future.

Please tell us about your art.
I create unique gifts, trophies, home décor. They are all one-of-a-kind hand-crafted pieces made from TIG welding new and up-cycled metal materials. My inspiration started from making football trophies and since then has evolved into what I like to call “moments”. Moment Fabrications can create a unique piece of art to capture a special moment for you. I have learned you can take small things of little value and turn them into something beautiful. I hope to share my love of art and design with others through the pieces I make.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I have found that creating the pieces is the easier part. Marketing and sales can be difficult, especially for a first-time small business owner.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Moment Fabrications is on Instagram and Etsy. I have recently shown my work at the Spring Vintage and Vino show and plan on attending Gilbert Art Wall this fall. You can follow my Instagram page for upcoming events that I plan to attend. Support of my work can be done through following my page and spreading the word of my work.
