Meet Shauna Schmeisser of Schmeisser Law, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauna Schmeisser.

Hi Shauna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 2016 and began my career in transactional law. Becoming a mother gave me a new perspective: I saw firsthand how essential it is to protect not only assets, but also family legacy.
In 2023, after my husband and I sold a software company, I started helping family and friends with their estate planning needs—and quickly discovered how much I loved this work. What drives me most is empowering people to stay in control of their decisions—whether that means ensuring their end-of-life wishes are honored, protecting their property, or providing for the future care of loved ones.
I find real joy in guiding clients through what can often feel like an overwhelming process and helping them find peace of mind. That’s why, when it came time to launch my own practice, the choice was clear: I dedicated it fully to estate planning.
Today, my work focuses on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, special needs trusts, and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. At the heart of everything I do is one simple goal: to help families feel secure, prepared, and cared for.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I look back on that time with deep gratitude. After we sold our software and before I opened my practice, life was full of transitions—including welcoming our fourth child. In hindsight, those challenges became turning points. Each obstacle carried a lesson, and for me, it reinforced the importance of valuing family and ensuring my children—and the families I now serve—are always protected.
Starting out as a solo practitioner brought its own lessons. Early on, I once missed a signature in an estate plan. The very next day, my notary and I went to the client’s home to make it right. While I wasn’t proud of the oversight, it taught me something invaluable: always review every page for completeness before a client leaves my office. That experience shaped how I practice today—with a heightened attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to doing things right.

We’ve been impressed with Schmeisser Law, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At my firm, I focus on estate planning—wills, trusts, special needs trusts, and powers of attorney—as well as prenuptial and postnuptial agreements that integrate seamlessly with a family’s overall estate plan.
What sets me apart is how I practice. I take the time to really listen and approach every conversation with compassion. Each process begins with education, so my clients understand the options available to them. From there, we fact-find together to build the right plan, draft documents with care, and review them thoroughly before execution.
I’m most proud that when clients leave my office, they often describe feeling lighter—as though a weight has been lifted—because they’ve finally tackled something so important on their to-do list. My role is to guide them through the process in a way that feels approachable and manageable.
Another difference you’ll notice is accessibility. When you call my office, you speak directly with me—not an assistant or paralegal. That personal connection is at the heart of my practice and the way I choose to serve my clients.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that might surprise people is that I actually regret not establishing my own estate plan sooner. Looking back, I wish my husband and I had created one right after we got married. Even as someone who now practices in this field, I understand how easy it is to put it off. That experience gives me a unique perspective—and real empathy—when I encourage my clients to take action now rather than later.
