Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharom Rosas.
Sharom, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first picked up a camera when I was 13, I mainly took pictures of family and my younger brother and sister. The thought or idea of ever pursuing photography as a business never crossed my mind. I always just had fun with it and never really put any effort into growing because I didn’t know anyone that had ever made a living from it.
Until I was working a job where I was constantly in creative mode shooting their events, eventually people started asking if I had ever done family photo sessions. From there the seed had been planted and the researcher in me went nuts. I realized the magnitude of the photography industry and all the different niches you could specialize in. And the fact that I could set my schedule, work with people I actually loved and had everything in common with was everything I had ever wanted.
There was no turning back that creative spark I had always longed for had been fulfilled I started running towards it, saved up money to get a better camera, reading for 4-6 hours a day online blogs and YouTube videos on how to become a better photographer. Practiced, practiced, and practiced until I worked up the courage to start charging people.
The more I practiced I realized that I wanted to shoot weddings and people, everything about weddings drove me madly in love with my art. The details, the bouquets the huge wedding parties hooked me from day one. Today I am a full-time wedding and portrait photographer capturing moments and people madly in love. As an artist I understand that my craft is better perfected and I love that journey.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not, I’m sure every single human that has ever tried to pursue any business has always had some sort of obstacles. Trying to start a business takes a lot of money and knowing where to invest my money and what education courses to buy were so hard for me when I first started. So I had to do so much research and really think about what I shoot the most and what I wanted to create my business into.
The biggest one for me was and has always been accepting I am an artist.
It is so easy to say but photographers forget so easily that we are artists and that things and feelings change and it is ok for them to change. For example at the start of my business I always felt my worked needed to look and feel a certain way even though maybe the light or location needed something different. I understood with a lot of time and practice to respect the moments I get to share with my clients and document them in the only way I know how.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sharom Rosas Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a wedding and portrait photographer and what sets me a part is definitely the amount of value I set on my clients when they hire me they know they are not just getting a photographer they are getting a bridesmaid with a camera or a secondary planner I am as emotionally invested as if it where my day. My brides and grooms are my ultimate priority on their wedding day and thorough-out my booking process.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to keep growing as an artist and person. I am working on some awesome new goodies photographers and creative are going to be able to purchase from me more on that later this year.
