Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Zouzoulas.
Shannon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started a winery with my sister after moving across the country with two dogs and three kids. It was in the midst of a divorce and we had zero money. We put everything, and all our energy, into making our dream into a reality, despite being told it was impossible. We changed state law, started our winery and seven years later, we are still going strong. I think we got here because we had no other option and never even conceived failing.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, never smooth. We had no funds, we were single mothers, had to change state laws, fought with our local county, and lost both our parents along the way as to divorce.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Az Hops and Vines story. Tell us more about the business.
We have a very laid back, women-owned and operated the winery. We are very different in that we are event-driven and fun. We pair wine with Cheetos.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Defying the odds. Literally, everyone said it would fail. I suppose my kids saying they were proud of me.
