Meet Shannon Bishop of Be a Crown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Bishop.

Shannon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I wrote my book, Brokenness Undone, for the purpose of sharing the good news for marriages–that there is always HOPE! Even when all seems lost, even when you just want to give up, there is still a chance for reconciliation and unconditional love. I figure if one marriage is saved by reading my story, then it was worth all the pain and heartache my husband and I endured over the years!

I look back and call myself a “desperate housewife.” I was bitter and regretful, trying to fill the void in my heart with relationships outside of marriage. It wasn’t until my husband chose to forgive and love me without condition that I realized I didn’t want to continue down my destructive path. His example of TRUE love is what pulled me out of the pit and into a new life of living out the way I was designed to love and be loved.

My book not only details our redemption story, but it also gives every wife the tools, valuable information and coaching on how to thrive in her marriage. There IS hope, and it can be found in unconditional love and forgiveness.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road leading up to this point was most definitely not smooth! Our marriage endured 10 years of ups and downs–mostly downs until we hit rock bottom. It was either divorce or the choice to forgive and love without condition. In that decision to LOVE birthed a whole new life for us. We began to relearn how to communicate and relate to one another as people who truly love each other. Our faith in God is absolutely what gave us the ability to do this.

After reconciling with one another and with God, my husband quit his job and pursued the calling on his life to be a Pastor. I wrote my book, Brokenness Undone, and started the Be a Crown blog. Together we help coach couples through marriage issues, and we help individuals and families learn how to follow Jesus. We also started a church in our home, as well as a Podcast in which we try to help people learn what it really means to follow Christ. Our main goal in life is to love God and to love others.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Brokenness Undone is a story for EVERY wife. Whether you are happily married or on the verge of divorce, this book is for you because you are married! Many women hold Book Clubs and go through the book together, answering the questions at the end of each chapter, experiencing healing and hope in their marriages and even friendships!

My blog, Be a Crown is also a great resource for women who desire to grow in their faith and in the community. It consists of women from Arizona and California, all contributing as writers, sharing their stories and wisdom on how to Be a Crown for Christ.

The ministry my husband and I started is called the First Century Church Project. We do “church” from our home in Buckeye every other Sunday. I quote church because it’s not your typical church experience. We eat food together, we get to know each other, we read the Bible and share what we are all experiencing and learning in the Bible and in life.

Then we all pray for one another’s needs and a lot of times we are able to meet the needs among us. We are trying to get back to the basics of the early church as seen in Acts 2:42-47 in the Bible. We love connecting with new people and helping them discover the calling God has on their life!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very much into anything creative! I loved singing, dancing, and acting, in fact, I went to school in southern California to be an Actress! But I dropped out of college when I met my husband because all I wanted was to be his wife. That was part of the many issues in our marriage. We both felt like we had abandoned our dreams to be together.

So many couples feel that way and they think the answer is divorce. But the real answer is unconditional love! And in all of the pain and struggle, we found out that God’s dreams for us and our family far exceed the dreams we had for ourselves! Another cool thing is, God’s not finished with us yet! There are still so many dreams and exciting plans to be accomplished for His glory. We are excited to see what all the future holds as we continue to love and serve God and others.
