Meet Shannon Bishop of Beautiful Things Photography in Buckeye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Bishop.

Shannon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for beautiful things. Whether it’s flowers and nature, or little trinkets my Dad would bring home from his trips overseas, I would collect them and call them my “beautiful things.” As I grew up, my passions and creativity collided with photography. I had a daughter and all I wanted to do was photograph her! I would set her up on the bed, surround her with cute props and try to do mini photo shoots with the little Kodak point and shoot camera that I had. My husband soon took notice and decided to bless me with a REAL camera for Christmas. So, there I was, armed and ready to start turning my passion into a reality! That was 6 years ago. I decided to name my photography business Beautiful Things Photography because I believe there is beauty in all of us, and I want to capture it! The Bible tells us in the book of Ecclesiastes that God “has made everything beautiful in its time.” EVERYTHING. So, that means people too! We are all beautiful and precious in His sight, and I want to help people realize that! It’s not about perfection with me, it’s about capturing the beauty that God has placed within that person.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think my biggest obstacle has been teaching myself how to be a photographer. We haven’t been in a position for me to get an education on the topic, so I really learned by trial and error. As well as free classes and things available online. And I am still learning every time I go out on a shoot. And that is something I have learned: to never stop learning! (Can I say “learning” one more time?!)

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beautiful Things Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Beautiful Things Photography is known for our fun and unique outdoor Mini Sessions. We have a TeePee, a Carousel Horse, Lemonade Stand, and more! I love styling sessions and making them as fun and beautiful as possible. I am always coming up with creative session ideas and love working with clients and friends who are ready for anything!

I also specialize in taking senior portraits. I absolutely love getting to know and photograph an individual who is just getting ready to spread their wings and follow their dreams! I make it my mission to capture who they are and how they want to be remembered in this stage of life. If there is one compliment I get the most from clients, it’s that they love how fun and comfortable the session was with me. I truly love to make people laugh, and we usually end up friends by the end of our time together!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Phoenix has so many options for photo ops! So many colors and textures and then around the corner you could find a nice green lawn or park for some more natural elements. I love that you can find a cactus almost anywhere! I’d say what I like least is parking! I don’t want to have to pay a meter to park! You gotta find the secret spots to snag that free parking!
