Hi Shannan, so great to have you join us again. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please take a minute to briefly introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Shannan and I am and esthetician and owner of The Gray Lounge. I’ve been in the industry for 18 years and have owned my own business for 3 years. I do a variety of esthetic services including speed waxing, spray tanning and body contouring. I also recently started my own skin care line.

Was it difficult making the leap from a corporate company to being on you own?
Yes it was. I was very scared. I am a single mom and really had alot on the line. I started my business and still worked my regular job for about 6 months before I realized I needed to let go. I was doing what I loved and had dreamed about for so many years. Once I finally made the leap I was like why didn’t I do this sooner!?

What inspired you to start your own skincare line?
I do alot of microneedling and felt like I was lacking in what I could offer for post care. I wanted an amazing face oil and didn’t really have anything I loved. After months of research and trial and error I found an amazing company who shared my vision. After the oil and a few serums came out, I had tons of people asking about cleansers and moisturizers so it just went from there.

What made you want to work in the beauty industry?
When I was growing up (before Internet) I loved reading fashion magazines and actually wanted to be a makeup artist. I found a school in the phonebook that offered esthetics and makeup classes without having to do hair. During school I realized that I was not good at makeup but I was good at waxing and skin.

What’s your favorite services you offer?
I’ll always love waxing, but I love doing Hyaluron lip fillers, which are noninvasive lip fillers. Those are alot of fun. And also fat dissolving and contouring because I love being able to help women feel their most beautiful. I love microneedling as well.
