Meet Shane McCassy of Hab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane McCassy.

Shane , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Southern California, I was lucky to see and experience the beginnings of so many iconic brands. Being able to see first hand how brands got started and the passion behind each project was inspiring to see. I knew that I wanted to be a part of brands like those and decided while in my senior year of high school that I would skip college and get right to work. After working for some more established brands like Oakley and Alpinestars, I took a job at a startup called Amp’d Mobile. Amp’d was creating a mobile content platform which had never been done before. This was 2005, before the iPhone and before 3G so what could go wrong? After 2.5 years Amp’d Mobile had streamed countless live events, grown over 100,000 users, and ultimately filed for bankruptcy. That was the first major setback I had in my career.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As much as this was a setback, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It allowed me to think about what I wanted to do and most importantly, what was going to bring me the most fulfillment. My heart (and body) led me to the health and wellness industry where I spent the next 12+ years at brands Muscle Milk and Tone It Up. During this time, I was able to experience what it was like to blend your personal passions with business, and how that can bring great success both professionally and spiritually.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hab – what should we know?
This way of thinking led me to the creation of Hab. I was on my own health and wellness journey, which included living a more sustainable lifestyle. Step one for me and many people is eliminating plastic water bottles from my everyday life. I realized that when I wanted something more than water, I would turn to flavored water in a bottle or can. I hated seeing multiple bottles or cans in the waste bin at my desk every day and the lightbulb clicked. I wanted to create a product that gave me a refreshing fruit flavor with no waste. After many iterations, we developed Hab’s naturally flavored bit. A bit is a dose as you like tablet that pairs perfectly with your favorite reusable bottle or cup of your choice. Drop Hab into your water of choice (still or sparkling), let it fizz, and enjoy great tasting fruit-flavored water without the waste.

Hab’s mission is to help people enjoy more water and eliminate millions of bottles and cans from ever entering our oceans or landfills.
