Meet Shane Eckart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Eckart.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember I had some sort of camera in my hand. I took a photography course in High School.

All throughout high school I would do little photoshoots at my house or on the location of family and friends. Then I was offered my first paid job doing a wedding while I was still in high school. That was the spark that hooked me and knowing that photography was something I wanted to pursue more. Since then, over 35 years, I have broadened my skills and now I shoot not only weddings, but engagement, special events, portraits, and band photography including live and promo shots.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. There was a period when I put my camera away and had life issues to deal with. When I moved to Hawaii however in 1999 I picked up my camera and started pursuing my passion again. I had always dealt with film cameras and made my transition to digital photography. Learning the technology and learning how to edit my pics myself was fun but at times a lot of trial and error. It’s constant learning of new software and hours in front of your computer editing pics. I love it though.

In 2018 I moved back to Phoenix and kind of started off where I left off when I left. One of the local bands by the name of Matrix had reunited and I went out and took photos of their show. And from getting to know other bands I started doing all band pics. Since then though I have gotten back into weddings and portrait photography.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I have stated already I specialize in Portraits, Weddings, and live band photography. About 60-70 percent of my photography though is probably live band photography and that is what I am probably known for mostly. It’s always great seeing your work being used as a promotion for a local band or artist. It’s great seeing people using the photos I took on their social pages.

I enjoy seeing people enjoying the pics that have been captured to relive that certain moment in time. That’s rewarding to me and pushes me to be better and better at my photography. I take the time to edit my pictures and bring out the best image possible. I think that’s what sets me apart. I try to bring that moment back to life by capturing the joy, the excitement, and the fun at that moment in time.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Oh, there are so many great memories of growing up, but to stick with the theme of photography.

I remember as I was growing up we would go camping all the time… I always loved the outdoors and enjoying being in nature.
I remember going to the Grand Canyon and taking hundreds of photos. I had took this one photo of a waterfall and later ended up selling a poster size for $100… back then that was a big deal for a young photographer.
