Today we’d like to introduce you to Shahe Koulloukian.
Hi Shahe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the auto industry at the age of 13 at my uncle’s repair shop and worked my way up to the dealership before launching Mazvo Car Care Center because I wanted to provide a level of personal care that wasn’t available elsewhere.
I’m more than just a mechanic; I’m a master technician with over 42 years of expertise who specializes in assisting you in gaining control of your emotional responses to your vehicle and focusing on being a responsible car owner. My goal has always been to build true relationships with my clients via personalized attention and transparent communication.
My motivation stems from educating and empowering my consumers. I want them to learn the fundamentals of automobile maintenance so they can make educated judgments regarding their vehicle’s requirements. I think that information empowers individuals, which may change the game in any business.
Let’s face it: mechanics have not always been seen as trustworthy. But I am on a personal campaign to alter that. For over 28 years, I have run Mazvo Car Care with a focus on empathy rather than my bottom line. That is what makes us distinct. I regard myself as a consumer champion rather than the stereotypical business owner focused on profits.
For me, fixing automobiles is the easy part. The true incentive comes from educating my clients and witnessing their transformation. I also conduct empowerment talks at community and state schools around the United States, and I host yearly automobile maintenance clinics for women to assist them in understanding auto mechanics.
I’m a regular on AZTV7 with Pat McMahon and Brad Perry, and I frequently appear on the Emmy-winning show THE LIST to tell the truth about auto care. My dedication to ethical service has garnered me nominations for the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics and several service excellence certificates from various dealerships.
In November 2023, I published my first book, “Car Confidential,” which contains insider secrets on automotive ownership, maintenance, and road safety that are available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other fine retail bookstores. The book is dedicated to empowering every reader to not only grasp the principles of vehicles but also to accept responsibility and become the greatest car owners they can be.
My caring nature is shaped by my upbringing and travels. I was born into an Armenian family, have lived on three continents, and speak six languages. This broad life experience influences how I interact with others and comprehend their needs. I feel it is my obligation to assist everyone to think rationally, not only emotionally. Yes, I’m here to fix vehicles, but more significantly, I’m here to improve auto repair ownership.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Educating car owners—or should I say, enthusiasts—isn’t exactly a walk in the park. These days, everyone is enamored with their car’s bells and whistles: convenience, freedom, and, of course, luxury. It’s all good, but sometimes we forget that a car’s main job is simply to get us from point A to point B.
Over time, as we’ve become more attached to our vehicles, manufacturers have upped their game. Now, it’s not just about getting around. It’s about enjoying the journey in comfort, with top-notch sound systems and climate control to boot. Oh, and let’s not overlook safety. Add over a century of automotive innovation into the mix, and suddenly, you’ve got luxury and convenience wrapped up in a stylish box on four wheels.
We tend to buy with our hearts and our eyes, treating cars as an extension of who we are. But when faced with our first major repair bill, the romance can quickly turn into a little bewilderment. They say it’s a long game, and after running my own repair business for nearly 29 years, I feel like I’m still at the starting line, whistle in hand.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Mazvo Car Care Center?
Mazvo Car Care Center is much more than just an auto repair shop; we champion automotive wellness. Boasting over 43 years of experience, we blend personal attention with cutting-edge technology to transform the vehicle care experience.
At Mazvo, we focus on altering how you perceive vehicle ownership. Our main aim is to forge lasting relationships with our clients through education and empowerment, not just through repair services. We strive to demystify auto maintenance and equip you with the knowledge to make well-informed decisions about your vehicle. This educational approach sets us apart and has cemented our reputation for transparency and dependability.
Our commitment to customer education is evident in our regular empowerment lectures and workshops, and our annual car care clinics designed specifically for women. These initiatives work to dismantle stereotypes within the automotive industry and foster a more inclusive environment.
What truly sets us apart is our prioritization of empathy over profit. We see ourselves as consumer advocates, placing your needs and safety before our financial goals. This philosophy is deeply integrated into our business model and has been recognized with nominations for the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics, among other accolades.
On the branding front, we take great pride in our deep engagement with our community, highlighted by the launch of the book “Car Confidential.” Mazvo is more than just a service center; we are a collective of passionate individuals committed to positively impacting every customer’s life. Our core mission is to empower you not just as car owners but as savvy consumers who can confidently navigate the often-confusing automotive landscape.
We want our clients to understand that when you bring your car to Mazvo, you’re joining a community where care is paramount, every question gets an answer, and your vehicle is treated by someone who understands both its mechanics and its impact on your life. Our doors are always open for a conversation, a class, or a quick check-up. We’re here to ensure you stay safe on the road and confident behind the wheel.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking has always felt a little cliche to me. Attending these gatherings generally entails saying hi, exchanging business cards, and discussing what you do. It’s important to get out there and make your presence known in the community, but networking in groups reminds me of a neighborhood potluck.
I’d rather someone promote my repair business if they’ve already used my services. What use is a reference based on something so impersonal as a Yelp or Google Business review? Reading internet reviews does not give you the whole picture. It’s considerably more significant to hear from a long-time client who can say, “They’ve always treated me right,” or, “They always go the extra mile.” That’s the type of endorsement that matters since it’s based on personal experience.
Negative experiences circulate quickly and have a greater impact than positive ones, so a strong, personal endorsement is quite valuable. I never attempted to compete with other repair shops. Every business has its own set of obstacles and triumphs. If I’m competing against anyone, it’s myself—to be better than I was last year. To me, that is considerably more beneficial than any networking event.
