Today we’d like to introduce you to Serena Jones.
Serena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I have worked together, remodeling homes, for nearly 20 years. In 2011, after my youngest went to school full time, I decided to look into getting my Real Estate license, mostly to invest for ourselves. I quickly realized that I had more of a passion or obsession really… for this business. Our own investments have been more of a hobby. I love helping others. I have spent years learning everything I could about every detail of the transaction and process. The need for more knowledge and the encouragement of my team lead me to open my own brokerage in January of 2017.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anyone that says this job is easy isn’t doing it right. Most people believe that my job is basically opening doors. That just couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve done and overseen hundreds of transactions, and not one is ever the same. Every home, every client, every agent and every vendor comes with their own unique attributes and challenges. Sometimes, you will have the perfect home, the perfect client… and yet something goes wrong because of the cross side. Or you may have a situation that is covered in humps and bumps, but everyone rally’s to get through. I think my favorite part of this business is the bumps in the road though. When someone comes to me with a question or situation that I haven’t seen or experience, I revel in the opportunity to learn and grow. Then there are other days that I get to tackle the day “smoothly”, due to the experiences and growth from past ‘bumps’.
I’ve had days that end in cheers and some that end in tears, but not one single day resembles boring. I love it SO much.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started Serene Living AZ because I never found another company that aligned with my vision of real estate. I wanted to create a partnership of agents that had the same beliefs and vision as me. My agents and I all work together, chat together, vent together and celebrate together. We encourage, brainstorm, cheer and share with each other. When someone has a client looking for a home, you’ll often find another team member searching for them. When someone is stuck at a soccer game, you’ll find another running comps for them. When someone needs help dealing with an issue, we all come together. We are small, but we are mighty, together.
I believe in education and always developing and honing your skills. I believe in raising my team up and growing into the best we can be.
I see every one of my clients as an opportunity to gain a new friend and help someone in the biggest investment of their life. I see each home as a unique place that someone will call home. Someone will “live” in it, breath life into it, and care for it. Whether I’m helping someone buy or sell, I’m fully committed, hands on. I don’t believe in taking on more clients than I can handle. My whole team is like that. We’re just not in it for the numbers, we’re in it for the love of the people and the game.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Phoenix area is massive, with tons of growth happening every day. The challenge of getting into real estate here is standing out. There are about 30k agents in the greater Phoenix area, with my area of the East Valley being the largest membership. People tell me often that they are considering getting into real estate. I say let’s do it! I love taking on new agents and showing them my passion. Teaching this business to my agents has been a blessing for me. I’d love to take on a few more agents. My goal is to show more people how this business can be successful without being ‘salesy’. I want to raise the bar and show the public that we’re here for them. We’re not like everyone else.
This business just isn’t for everyone. We work 7 days a week, sometimes from the time we wake up, till the time were dragged off to bed. You wake up every day not knowing what will happen. It can be rough and some days it’s downright stressful. But it’s rewarding in every sense of the word.
