Today we’d like to introduce you to Seanloui.
Seanloui, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from Los Alamitos, CA. After the closing of my nonprofit, I came to Arizona homeless. Sleeping on the couch of a local band that I just did merch for. They saw me play bass with a random guy at a bar in Austin and asked me to actually me to join them as a second guitar player. Cause of course if I play bass very well, I can play guitar right? 🙂 I toured with the band for four years across the U.S. In the middle of one of the last tours I became depressed from a recent breakup, and a friend told me that maybe being creative in another way might help. So, she said I should take her picture.
So I took it, and she posted it. It got so much attention that others started asking me to their photos as well. Which led me to travel across the US taking photos for different companies and shoot for international magazines. The bug to keep playing music though was lingering in my head. In the middle of the random photography career the indie band I was touring with broke up, so I hungered for another musical outlet. This hunger led me to take a random song I wrote (called ” Tell Me “) and head to Europe to get it produced by an up and coming producer. Now, this was a hail mary attempt. I was broke (photography gigs had since dried up) and had no real other financial support.
After some miracles, the song was recorded, and I headed back to the states to see if I could get any traction as a solo artist. EVERYONE SAID NO when I pitched them the idea. BUT! After sending out another batch of emails, one person forwarded over to their friend. That same friend pitched me to the Huffington Post, and they wrote about my song, and it blew up on Spotify! 242k pays in a matter of months ( this is with little to no money backing it haha ) I then released more singles with the climax being the latest EP that was released a month ago. Called ” The Church Electric ”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh man. Before I left for Europe, I had to save $1000 just to make it out there. I THEN get in a car accident with a friends car that ended up costing me literally that same amount. Luckily I had an amazing friend that told me to pay him back later and to follow my dreams.
That coupled with very little support to start a solo music career for my photography was taking off as I was beginning to get asked to shoot for major companies like LYCRA® Brand, Wacoal America, Budweiser, Listerine, Bic Razors, Out Magazine. So I took a risk and said: “I’m going to do it anyways.”
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m an R&B infused indie pop-rock artist. I write music that is meant to electric the minds and thoughts of people in the audience. Every single note and lyric is intentionally written to bring out emotions, feelings, and ideas in people, and encourages unity and peace. This coupled with every song written to make people sing along and move their head to the beat. The goal is always to get people to sing together, cause there’s something truly electrifying when that happens.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Authenticity. Becoming something that gets in the way of uniting people toward accomplishing their dreams.
