Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Oliver.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sean. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up in the 90’s meant growing up with computers, and with that all the artistic potential technology provides. I started making movies in grade school with the family camcorder. After seeing “Star Wars: Episode I” I wrote my own script for “Episode II”, and I got my 5th-grade teacher’s permission to present it in class. We even passed around my plans for the movie and started a sign-up sheet. Sadly my version was never completed, but a life-long passion had certainly begun to reveal itself.
At Dobson High School I was fortunate enough to be involved in one of the most progressive and creative drama programs ever devised. By the time I graduated high school I had written and produced several hours of original content, which gave me a fantastic foundation upon entering the next phase of my life.
Third Productions became the banner for all my projects in 2009. We started by producing an 8 episode web series entitled “Lucidity: The Web Saga” with episodes ranging from 10-40 minutes long. It was one of my first massive undertakings as a filmmaker and taught me many many lessons.
Between 2014-2016 we competed in 8 film challenges and won a total of 21 awards. We finished our film challenge run with a Danny Elfman film competition. Our team’s film “Natural Promotion” was one of the ten winners selected by Elfman himself and premiered at the 2017 LA Film Festival.
As of late, we’ve completed production on our latest short film “Imaginary Bullets”. The film is about a world where anytime someone pretends to shoot a gun real bullet fires. We’re just now submitting it to festivals and we hope to have a successful run over the next year. On the horizon, Third Productions is starting to look towards our first feature. It’s our goal to tell unique stories and we’re excited to do that on bigger and bigger scales.
Has it been a smooth road?
No road is without its potholes, but I’ve been lucky to have a strong support system around me. Friends and family have always pushed me to pursue my goals. Carving out a work life that not only sustains you but supports your craft has been difficult. But as I get older I find that it gets less scary. When you start out in the film business there will always be some people who think it’s a fool’s quest, but after over a decade of work, even those individuals have to admit that it’d be misguided to change course now.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Third Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Third Productions is an independent production company that specializes in delivering strange and endearing stories. We’re primarily known for our award-winning shorts, but we have plans for music videos and live events as well. I’m most proud of our ability to tell stories that people haven’t seen before. Whether is a balloon seeking revenge for the death of its lover, or the story of two roommates who share each other’s dreams at night. We’re always looking forward and trying to push our stories further and further.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the people that are in Phoenix. I have a lot of strong relationships in this city, and they are what keep me from wanting to move to a city like LA. There is an active film community in Phoenix that has been a major support over the years. The glaring downside to Phoenix is the summer. It makes it very difficult to shoot any exteriors during those months!
