Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Collins, Josh Peters, and Deven Palay.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
So Josh and I (Sean) met at a rock camp sort of deal that a local music store used to hold every couple of months. Josh had himself a little proto-Divided Minds band at the time that he invited me to join. After like a week, the proto-DM band broke up except for Josh and I, but we decided to keep playing, so we needed a drummer. I happened to bump into Deven’s sister at a gas station a week later and recognized her because I knew her and her brother from the same rock camp thing. So I asked Deven’s sister for his number and invited him to our next practice, and we started a band!
Please tell us about your art.
We play a mix of pop and punk music, but it’s not really pop-punk. We try not to let a genre define what we do because we like being able to write whatever we feel like writing.
There’s not really so much of a message behind our songs as there is a feeling. Most of our songs are about heartbreak or love with fun riffs and beats to back it up. We just want to share our emotions with our listeners because emotions are always better when they’re shared.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
All three of us have agreed that success to us is being able to play music as our jobs. We don’t want to get crushed by the monotony of a 9-5 because music is the most freeing thing we personally do. So to be able to focus solely on that and make that our lives’ work together would be a dream come true.
I think persistence and craftsmanship are essential qualities. Keep at it, and do it to the best of your ability.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We are on all the music streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Youtube Music, etc. So if you give us a listen on there, it helps us immensely. You can see all of our upcoming shows on all of our social media like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, we post all of the stuff we want people to know on there, we also usually put our most upcoming show on our Spotify home-page, and bands in town.
But the best way to support us is to come to our shows, plus it’s the most fun way!
